Throughout the discussions of this bag on Massdrop it seems that everyone is holding it to such a high standard. This is a $50 dollar trail running frameless backpack, and for that price, this is worth it's weight in gold. I got the medium/large (28l) and I am 150lbs and 6'. I am blown away at the overall quality of this bag. I live in an urban environment so I will mostly be using this bag for transit commutes, cycling, and general minimal travel. I tried this bag out for a weekend trip to family in the Appalachian mountains and it performed wonderfully. I know most of you will be using this as a fast pack, but my use case is a bit different. I purchased this bag to be my go-to commute bag, but I now see that I can use it for an ultralight overnight trip as well. The frameless design is perfect for my base weight. The stitching, mesh pockets (they not that rigid by the way - other reviews say they don't stretch, I purchased mine in the May '19 drop so from my perspective this issue has been fixed.) The only thing on this pack I see that could be of concern with regular use is the rolltop buckle and the chest straps. What they don't show in the pictures is that the inside of the bag has an internal pocket and a hole for a water bladder hose to come through. Overall, 10/10 for the build quality, size & design, and price of this product.

Top notch materials and workmanship on my pack. M/L fits 43” chest perfectly. Loaded it up with about 12 pounds and took a short hike 4ish miles. It was very comfortable. My only minor con would be the stretch of the pockets is limited. It only cost $50. It’s a no brainer. I’ve recommended that my hiking friends join in the next time it drops.

Initial impressions: The pack is well put together and the materials feel nice to the touch. I got the Med/Large and it fits nicely (6’ tall, 43” chest). I put a 8 lb weighted bag in the main compartment and took a short walk and jogged a few steps – seems like it will be pretty stable and the shoulder and chest straps fit me comfortably with no pinching or weird pouching. I like the stretch pocket on the back and the second stretch pocket on the bottom of the pack. I’m not sure what I’ll carry in the bottom pocket, probably my wind pants and coat. The side pocket and compression cords hold my poles nicely.  I like the roll-top closure. The main compartment will hold about as much gear as you should be carrying with a pack this size and I like that the zippered interior pick has a key hook. There are two things I’m not thrilled with – the stretch pockets on the shoulder straps are small and tight. My phone is a Moto G5+, so not a large phone at all, and it just barely fits. Also it seems like the pocket could have been extended over the “wing” section of the harness so a little more gear could be carried up front. I have a shoulder strap pouch from Gossamer Gear and it attaches nicely to the shoulder strap which will partly address the issue. The other issue won’t be a problem for everyone - I’m not a water bladder user and unless you are a contortionist you won’t be able to reach anything in the side pockets. I’ll be able to rig up something and run a tube from my water bottle in the side pocket and run it up over the shoulder strap but it would have been nice having a pocket up front big enough to hold at least a soft bottle. Overall this seems like a good purchase and I’m looking forward to putting some miles on it and trying it for an overnight soon.  Update: I have about 50 miles in now. The pack is holding up well, no snags or seam failures. The snap was stiff but loosened up enough to use one handed. The snap has been wet a few times and no rust so far. I've carried 4-8 pounds comfortably. The gear capacity has been adequate but I haven't loaded it up for an overnight yet. When I've run it tends to slide up my neck a bit. I usually wear a a top with a hood year-round so this doesn't bother me but was a little annoying when I had a crew-neck on. No issue with fast walking. I haven't dropped anything from the pockets and the stuff-it pocket is big enough to carry hat, gloves, wind jacket and snacks. I still haven't figured out what to put in the bottom outside pocket. The "compression straps are weird. They just pull the top of the pack down and don't provide any side compression. I haven't found this to be a problem and they do kinda help hold things in place. I've found work-arounds for the things I didn't like: The front pockets are tight and they are small but I can get my phone and lip balm in one and 800-1000 kcal of carefully chosen snacks in the other one so I suppose I can live with them. For extra front storage I put on a Gossamer Gear shoulder strap pocket on one of the straps - the zipper rides a little high but it's operable and it's decent sized. Hydration was the other issue as I don't like to use a bladder for that I use an AquaClip from Zpacks and a smart water bottle (?750ml). It is stable and I added an loop of thin elastic cord to minimize what little bounce there was. I carry a larger smart water bottle in the side pocket for refills. Things that still bug me: chest straps are a little short for me - I have to let them out pretty much all the way. An extra inch would have made a difference for comfort. Also the back support pad is pretty worthless for anything else - I still need to carry my own ass pad for sitting.

Carries 12-pack plus smartphone. No charger. edit: It is really comfortable, and the charger thing doesn't really bother me. It's really light, too. Huge capacity and it looks like money, in a good way. I have a m/l to trade for a small. They both look like the same capacity, I guess the sizing is in the harness.

I just got mine today and I'm really underwhelmed. The basic pack design is sound and the shoulder straps are comfortable but, man, has Massdrop dropped the ball on execution. As others have pointed out, the stretch pockets are a disaster. They have very little stretch, the opening is stitched way too taught and you can't reach into the side pockets. The only useful one is the large front pocket but, on my pack at least, it seems to have more stretch in the vertical than in the horizontal where I would expect the opposite. The roll top is like none I have ever seen, used or made: instead of going around the whole of the bag the stiffener only covers the front panel and the rest is limp as a wet biscuit. As for the small buckle it is attached to a wafer-thin piece of grosgrain which itself is only very lightly sewn to the back panel only. Speaking of lightweight sewing, the straps are just attached to the back panel with a simple rectangle of thin thread, not even an X-box. All in all, this pack bears the hallmark of having been made by a manufacturer with zero experience of manufacturing a hiking backpack. None of the above can't be fixed with a seam ripper, proper stretch fabric and a sewing machine but I was expecting a fastpack rather than something that needs to be rebuilt into what it should have been.

BalaganCompletely agree. Seam at roll top with possible sewing machine malfunction. Ripped and resewn by me. Next item was attaching my own strip of webbing on inside and oversewing shoulder strap attachments to give them some needed strength. I actually like the beefier stretch material as I’m mostly trail running/bushwhacking but the front pockets are going to only hold gels. Agree on backpanel and need for rolltop stiffener to go both sides. I do use water bladders so would have liked an attachment hook. I ended up attaching a thin waist strap because I couldn’t keep the bounce down with a full bladder. Fabric is nice but again I prefer a bit beefier material so appreciated the fabric selection. I had hoped for better stitch quality—loose threads, uneven seams etc. overall the price was right but needs some manufacturing improvement.

BalaganI agree Very disappointed I was looking to put a water bottle in the chest pocket but the pocket is soo tight that the bottle digs in my ribs Even a Garmin Etrex digs in the ribs I will have to cut out the pockets and replace

Great pack, but one of my side pockets already ripped through the bottom. The only thing that's been in it is a nalgene 1 liter and I've only carried it to work when I ride my bicycle.

I agree with the other reviews. Not impressed. I will only focus on my biggest disappointment, The front pockets. Did anyone test to see if these would fit the average phone with a case?! Mine barely squeezes in (with the sound of a few stitches breaking) But more importantly my tiny, collapsible water bottle (HydraPak Ultraflask) does not fit in it! Well, unless it is collapsed, which does not help. I could go on but I am going to be busy sewing some stretchable straps above the pockets.

Cool idea and some neat designs. Top closure snap was broken on arrival(not a big deal). I had the top strap pop out of the guide. The build quality is poor. Also the stretchy pockets are not very stretchy.

Garbage! Great concept and great price don't amount to anything once it fails. And it failed quickly. Sending me a new one under warranty. I expect more of the same. Disappointed to say the least. Save your $50

Great pack for $50. The only issue I see is the strap pockets are not stretchy enough for water bottles and most newer and bigger cellphones. Bottom pocket is on point and the side pockets are a good size. There is a hole for a water blatter. The inside zipper compartment is a nice touch but if it were a little bigger it could double as a bag making the pack a great travel “packable” pack. This trail runner pack works great when riding bike. Adjusting the shoulder straps is a little tricky for me.
