Designed by ultrarunner Aaron Sorensen, the Shadow fast pack is a comfortable, lightweight carrying solution for long-distance hiking and trail running. And like a shadow, it’s meant to stay with you all day—or all weekend—with enough room for water, layers, and gear Read More
Hello, and welcome to the page of the 1st Massdrop made backpack called the Shadow.
First and foremost, the Shadow was designed with all day comfort in mind.
Getting the fit just right with no need for a waist belt took over 8 months in the development process.
In the end, the harnesses 3 dimensional body mapping shape fits perfectly while your body is on the move.
With the 2 attachment points on each side and the dual harness connections on sliders, the Shadow can dialed in for a very stable fit and suitable as a pack you can run with.
With a light and fast approach, the pack can be filled with a weekends worth of fun!
While most harness styled packs need to fit similar to a large running pack, the Shadows generous size can easily fit a dedicated ultralight overnight gear-list.
The Shadow doesn't stop here.
With its attractive high-end looks, it works exceptionally well as a day pack, with the ability to pack in a long days worth of just about anything, and get you through the day in style and comfort.
The Shadow is made with a durable and strong 210 denier fabric, so it's built to last.
There's also 6 pockets , so you're able to stow a variety of gear in easy to reach locations.
You even have a bottom pocket for quick reach items without needing to take the pack off.
With a wide variety of uses and stowage options, along with being the perfect size, the Shadow is ready to go anywhere and do anything.
Along with an attractive price point, I hope you enjoy the many benefits and features of the Shadow.
Also, for sizing purposes,
I'm 5' 11" with a 38" chest.
The Med/Large will fit me great for hiking, but would need the small/medium to be able to run with it. The small/ medium would be a much better fit for someone my size.
They will be updating the torso fit shortly, but for chest size, I would only go with the med/large if you have a 42 inches circumference chest or more.
Thank you,
Aaron Sorensen
It's really hard to find things in the main compartment of big, roll-toppy backpacks if the colour of the inside fabric is dark. Even in well-lit areas, any and all light that manages to find its way into the bag seems to be swallowed up by the void by the time it should have reached the bottom.
I've actually stopped using some of my current backpacks because having to blindly search for a wallet or keys I've thrown into the main compartment was incredibly annoying.
And the fix for this would have been so easy: Just use a bright colour for the inside of a backpack!
Any chance we could get a top-down view of the inside of the main compartment?
A good tip: Use a white trash compactor bag as a bag liner. It'll weigh almost nothing, help you find things in your bag, and make your contents waterproof.
Hello everyone,
I wanted to give everyone an update on the pack you will receive.
I just got the pack that came from the factory.
There were a few changes for the better from the primary in-house pack I used prior to the drop.
First and foremost is the quality of the pocket fabric.
It is now about 50% stronger.
It is now about 5% elastic vs about 8-10% but the strength is much better and is now suited for outdoor activities.
2nd is the stash pocket.
There is plenty of room for a wallet, phone and keys.
Last but not least is the removable pad that will fit bladder with the pad still inside the pocket. .
There is also a thru-hole for the bladder tube.
I will reply to the comments asking for photos of the inside of the pack on those messages as well.
In the photo is a side by side of both sizes. My wife is also 5' 4" with a small frame and the small / medium fit her and she was able to cinch the pack tight enough to run with it.
Thank you for your support and especially Massdrop for allowing me to make a vision come true.
AaronSorensenI am looking forward to getting my new backpack. I plan on making it my go-to for my weekend outdoor excursions. I am love the outdoors and a scout master. I typically spend at least two weekends a month hiking/backpacking/camping. I appreciate the improvements you made to make the backpack more suited for outdoor activities.
AaronSorensenWhat are the dimensions of the water bladder sleeve? can it fit a laptop? I know this is not what it was intended for but I'm looking for a dual-purpose light backpack for hiking and travel and this pack looks interesting
My shift to gear utilising X-Pac has mostly been driven by bags wetting out/moisture build-up frustrations.
I try not to cherry pick weather, so waterproof packs are fantastic for the ability to just grab and go without worrying about dry bags etc .
Plus X-Pac are now making VX without the exterior X grid that looks quite stylish. Not as beautiful as this bag though!
A+ fabric choices!
