Inspired by Montblanc’s own Minerva line of watches, which gained popularity in the 1920s and ‘30s, the 1858 expresses the spirit of mountain exploration. Sporting a deep black dial with a golden bezel and golden Arabic numerals, the 1858 has an aged, almost rustic look Read More
I kind of get the feeling that members like to give Montblanc a bashing on this site. I do have a Montblanc 1970 Vintage silver fountain pen and I am quite happy with it. Did I hear something about watches?
hoffmanNot necessarily... However for me this one doesn't provide enough value for the pricing.
I've bought here a Montblanc Chronograph ⌚ (twinfly, way more expensive than this one) and several old Starwalker 🖊️ all of those with a "good" pricing actually (obviously expensive, but I get some value in return)
But this one... A Sellita SW200 for $1,450.00 + taxes... No way 👎🏾👎🏾 And the MSRP is indeed correct, if you go to a Montblanc boutique you'll pay MSRP 😨 It's pretty clear for me why is this ⌚ dropping: not enough value, not even @ this price point we're being offered. We've got Glycine with this very same movement for less than $400.00 and even some of those with bronze case as well. Much better value indeed.
Glycine with SW200: https://drop.com/buy/glycine-double-twelve-watchGlycine with bronze case: https://drop.com/buy/glycine-combat-sub-bronze-automatic-watchFor me, these Montblanc ⌚ are vastly overpriced for what they are. Maybe, because of the brand, but likely regretting, @ $900.00ish 😪 And I know Montblanc can do much much better 😊... They own Minerva, they can create in house movements, they've even created Tourbillons, Perpetual 📆 and many interesting in house complications. For a much higher price, obviously. And I'm willing to pay a higher pricefor a ⌚ that provides me with value. Sadly it isn't happening here.
Here's my review of the twinfly ⌚ BTW: https://drop.com/buy/montblanc-timewalker-twinfly-automatic-watch/reviews/2352604?utm_source=linkshare&referer=9958VR
Not with you on this one. Very nice, contemporary example of a trench watch piece today. Cathedral hands? Check. Easy to read dial/ face? Check. Precisely marked minute indications? Check. Large numerals in an easily read font? Check-ish (could be larger, font is not old, but very simple). Thin lugs? Check. A crown of differing color/ material than the case? Check. I dunno, man. I think they nailed it for a 2019 iteration of a 1900's style.
Whoever wrote the description for the watch should go back to grade school, or at least the mailroom. There are so many missed features in the description, they should have not written anything at all and let this discussion section do their job.
On top of that, who checks this stuff??!! SMH
For anyone who hasn't seen these in the flesh, they are fantastic pieces. If this was the blue with the small seconds at 6 O'clock I would have purchased it. This entire line up in phenomenal.
This watch is trying very hard to look like a Seiko Alpinist without the compass bazel and with an outrageous price tag. Very little going here except an homage to Seiko.
WatchyNot taking anything away from the Alpinist, which I think is a great watch, but the inspiration for this style goes further way back than the Alpinist. The cathedral hands and the overall look with the large legible numeral were found in the military and pocket watches since the World War 1 era.
