I bought these at launch, listened to them for 2 weeks, wasn't blown away; Sold them, couldn't forget the sound and re-bought a cheaper pair second hand. In Short: A8's tuning (as with all Moondrop products) is based on the Harman target. The listening experience as a result is super smooth, relaxing, and imo, quite addictive. With the exception of bass heads, the music coming out of these is hard not to like. Additional impressions for those interested: Appearance & Build:
  • Default clear resin build is crystal clean and pretty much flawless; No rough edges or bubbles anywhere, definitely TOTL. In China, you can customize it like a CIEM but I wouldn't have it any other way. Pictures don't do it justice, the A8 is beautiful.
Accessories:
  • - Leather case is not premium but it's hard, durable and will keep your IEMs safe. It's pretty small though, so if you want to cable roll 6 or even 8-wire cables or something with a big Y-splitter it's probably not going to fit.
  • - Cable is from a Lyre Acoustics, a fairly reputable cable producer in China. The Pansy (That's what it's called) is one of their cheapest offerings at ~45USD. It's an 8 wire cross-braid between silver-plated copper and pure copper. All the wires are litz structured and it's nice and soft. The big catch? There are very, very few strands in each wire that's why it's so cheap and thin despite being an 8-wire litz cable. If you read headfonia's review, they recommend dumping the cable and I completely agree.
  • - Only silicone tips are included. I found them to be sufficient and required no tip rolling but your experience may vary,
Comfort and isolation:
  • - Not exactly small but fits me like a dream; Even better than the PP8. I would say it's 90% of what a CIEM feels like. By Western standards, I have smaller than average male ears so most people should be at least okay.
  • - Obviously fit dependent, but the isolation for me is top notch.
Sound:
  • - Vocals, particularly female, are gorgeous. Bass is polite and clean; Doesn't interfere with anything while treble extends just high enough before smoothing out so that there's no sibilance anywhere.
  • - Separation across the board is excellent, nothing sounds muffled or drowned out.
  • - Soundstage is nothing special but still good, particularly in width. Depth impressed me the most as I wasn't expecting the A8 to get there with it's relatively recessed bass presence.
  • - Resolution is fine. I would say it's about the same level as the BGVP DM7. (Which speaks more about the DM7's phenomenal value). It's respectable for this price range but the A8 is not going to turn-heads on detail-retrieval; Especially in the ultra-competitive Chi-fi market. Avoiding the very obscure brands, just off the top of my head, both the Fearless S10 Genie and LZ Big Dipper are more resolving to my ears.

WordsandMusicYup that's the one.
buying 'high end' on MassDrop is kind of silly. I got into this site to save money, not spend more on things I can find an equivalent for 25% of the price.

Consider what I said in my latest comment "I already can observe that anywhere in the world there are greedy engineers and good engineers chinese or not."

unanimously he Ecne said "Oooh evil, greedy people from outside China." so I came with my reply not talking about Moondrop is a Chinese company but im talking about Ecne's reply "Oooh evil, greedy people from outside China." and so I replied defending that theres a lot of non-chinese engineers that go to China to manufacture their stuff I said "Not all in fact ive seen one product "electric screw driver" that are designed by an "german engineer". and also said "I already can observe that anywhere in the world there are greedy engineers and good engineers chinese or not."

The Moondrop A8 are really likeable from any perspective. They're among my favourite IEMs. They have a neutrali(ish) tuning with very good technical ability. They are not exceptional in any given way, but they are really good in every aspect that counts. In case you are interested, I published a full review here: https://www.soundphilereview.com/reviews/moondrop-a8-review-4430/

Slater91Glad you like these as much as I do. I agree with you. There are more detailed IEMS out there but these have enough detail to them and a certain musicality and smoothness to them that they make for such a pleasurable listening experience.

The sound quality is close to PP8, less balanced but still balanced in overall. This is the only BA IEM with top level sound and budget price on the market yet. The build quality of IEM part is pretty good, clean and solid. The cable is from another company and built quality is OK, and sounds nice as an accessory. This is the only BA IEM I bought after I have PP8, Re2000, Dk-4001. After I have it for a month, the sound is attractive to me and I still feel the price is a steal. This is like a benchmark telling other companies how a low-price high-quality product can be made.

SecushelAgree on cost, but I would say the closest IEM below 500 compared to pp8 should be ER4SR
TercoNo for sale posts please. This platform is not designed for that. And we have this rule in place to protect users

I was really thinking of getting this. I have not had much luck with two pin and third party cables. The two I have would not fit with the cable I got. Not sure what the deal is but it seems that not all two pins are alike. Love for someone to explain what I'm doing wrong.

Thank you very much. I was worried that the MEE was going to waste and I was going to struggle getting a 2.5mm for my new earbuds.

I also see that the earbuds I could not fit are the one with the pins covered. I'll know to look for a cable that is not 0.78 for them. Thanks again.
