Bought both the HEM6 and HEM8. Both are mediocre at best. The Moondrop starfield are WAY better than both. In term of sound quality. Poor detail retrieval, bloated bass (HEM8). sucked out mids. Overall the tonality is bad. Even super cheap iems like the blon 03 or the T2 plus are better overall.
This was my first IEM. I really loved the sound of this, especially for the price.
TL;DR - If you like heavy music or music with a lot of sub woofer type feeling, this isn't for you. But for anything else such as pop music, it was good
Not directly related to the product, but in general:
The problem I ran into is after this (earphones) I wanted to get 'better and better' sound, so ended up buying other items such as AudioQuest dragonfly and other amplifiers, which lead me to purchase my current IEM's the Andromedia.
You cannot compare the 2 and it is unfair too, but the annoying thing with any type of headphone is that once you hear something better it is really hard to give anything 5 stars because you've heard what 5 star quality sounds like.
Having said that, what I find this headphone good for is pop music and other 'non heavy' type of music. I love heavy music, but I find with most IEM's it lacks the 'bass' (I know in reviews they say its got good bass), but when you want that sub woofer type feeling in your ear, you won't get that (I stupidly always thought sub woofer and bass where interchangeable).
But if you are starting out, then I think these are really good value for money
The unit I ordered is HEM8 and my rating only inflects to the sound quality as these earbuds are for sure sounding great but build quality is poor for its price point in my opinion. Big sound stage and precise imaging. They sounds very warm and a bit bass-ier for my taste as I personally prefer colder and analytical sound signature like the DT990 Pro but this doesn't stop me to love them because its sound signature makes them my go-to pick for my orchestral and instrumental musics. This pair offers a superior experience for my orchestral and instrumental collections that both of my DT990 Pro and MEE Audio Pinnacle P1 can't rival at all. But on the other hand, which is quite obvious, I didn't enjoy them as much as I did with my other two pair when I am listening to some more modern music genres like EDM and dubsteps. These feels very comfortable due to the housing is small and very light. Ear tips that are included in the package fits my ears and gives comfortable and good sealing but your mileage may vary. The greatest disappointment comes in the build quality. The portion of the cable that splits and leads to the earbuds are very, VERY, THIN. Every time when I pull these out I have to pay so much attention for not to apply too many force as they are too thin that I'm very confident (I know it's a weird way to say lol) that I can tear them apart with little force. Thankfully that other cable which has in-line control is a bit more legit. Still for a product that is suppose to costs $399 USD in retail I don't think this cable quality is acceptable and if there is a section for rating build quality separately I would only give 1 star out of 5 stars. Not to mention that the connectors on these earbuds are using Nuforce's proprietary design so finding a replacement cable is for sure going to be a disaster if someone is needed to. Otherwise these has been serving me good. Both earbuds are working fine and so far I haven't find any signs of driver failure over 1.5 years of owning them (ordered in March 2019).
TL DR:
Ordered HEM8 and it sounds great especially for instrumental and orchestral from my own experience but not my go-to pick for other genres (EDM, dubsteps). They are comfortable for me but YMMV. Build quality is poor for its price point, not recommended for outdoor activity or you will have bad time to find replacement cable because the connectors are proprietary design if you break the cable.
These got me into IEMS I heard sounds I’ve never heard before in music I’ve listened to for years. Be warned though this is a slippery slope, just as there’s always a faster car than yours there are also better iems, cables, amps..... ciem’s...... make it stop I’ll never be happy!
I've had them for most of this year and they have become my daily drivers. I almost always pick them over my bluetooth headsets (Bose Soundlink and JBL UA true wireless flash)
Looking forward to getting these out onstage or during a long rehearsal, but the overall sound quality beats everything I've tried under the $500. Lots of bottom end and lots of warmth and presence to the overall sound.
