I’m not sure I would be able to hear the difference between the Drop version and the regular one. I like the looks of the regular one better.

Is it just me or is the product description for this one even more of a word salad than usual for audio gear? Like, not knowing what the "A" in DAC is is kind of weird, off the bat. Also, does this mean...anything? "Precise channel mixing and volume matching of both analog output levels enable a seamless transition between DSD and PCM paths. Ground-centered and outfitted with proprietary AC impedance detection, the Hi mDAC Signature can handle any pair of headphones at home or on the go."
So I'm gonna need ultra portability so badly I'm choosing this over the Hip Dac? That's what they're going for?

Well, I have all the truly portable DAC/amp devices out now, as long as they are larger than a pencil: Tempotec Sonata HD Pro, 9038s, ifi HipDAC, Nuprime mDAC, Lotoo PAW S1, etc... If you are using IEMs, you certainly dont need the HipDAC. Actually, I'm not sure why anyone would choose the HipDAC if all they use is IEMs... It's the lowest on the list for me and I can guarantee it's the worst measuring of them all. Just get a Tempotec Sonata HD Pro for IEMs and call it a day. Or this. The extra $80 this cost over the Tempotec is worth it for me just to have the 100 level volume control. Also, I would just purchase the regular one of these off Amazon. It's cheaper. And I couldn't find anywhere in Drop's listing stating that this was different in anyway except for the outside... which looks gaudy af IMO.

I have a Nuprime DAC-9 in my home headphone setup, I like it a lot! Wondering how this mini compares against the Dragonflies?
Hi mDAC still keep the series DNA inside. If you love the DAC-9, I think the wonderful sound will stand by you when you go outside.

Usually I use the camera module to USB A to USB C to device. I just tried it with my friend's cable( lighting to USB C).

The NuPrime Hi mDAC can be used as a USB to SPDIF converter. With Toslink Cable, you can connect to a older "Legacy DAC" of a large stereo system.

You can even connect it to any system with usb and/or toslink connections.

So if I understood the overview correctly, this should be able to drive a 600 ohm pair of headphones?

You might be looking for a standalone amp....

Anyone considering trying a thumbdrive amp/dac consider the E1DA 9038s. It's just under $100. I have it and absolutely love it.

From what the specs was written, The Hi-Mdac Signature have better measurement compare to the original one (frequency response, s/n ratio, THD+N)
