I just got the email and the drop is already inactive?

UnwisefoolSorry about that! The units we were able to reserve for the drop sold out in one day, wow. However, this means that we can most likely get more units for the next drop. Make sure to hit the "request" button, and we'll see if we can bring this drop back as soon as possible.

LizI'll get it off of Amazon, that way I can have it in two days versus 6 months
This drop is worth it for the refills alone. Especially if you have other OHTO needlepoints.
No problem. Consider however, that I wrote this two months ago. At which time the pen was about $11 with Amazon Prime and the refills were only available with prime as singles at over $7 a piece. Markets fluctuate, prices change.
It's not just the audiophile (see also mech keyboard) community that put together some remarkable deals. There have been some great steals in the writing group and others. Massdrop is not just about getting a certain item at a lower price (although there have been some great bargains in the recent past); often its about getting said item at all. There are Massdrop exclusives and often you'll see something offered at reasonable price here that is almost impossible to find in the US ( for instance, the Ohto Litz, try finding that one on Amazon. Other markets have their own hard-to-gets). As for the bargain/savings drops offer, those are hit or miss. And that's a good thing, if you think about it. As an example, there are 3 or 4 new drops for the writing community each day. If all of them were door-busters, we'd all be in financial trouble.

Is this bait and switch? I get the email about the pen and then find that the drop is not active? What's up with that?

svtcobra00More like fake bait. Like a MassDrop fake out. Or would it be a fake up? I've always had trouble with propositions.

How much of the point of the pen retracts?

KDEm100%. The fine point has a shank on it that keeps it centered in the barrel. When you retract the pen the shank and point both recess completely into the head with approximately 1.5mm of space from opening.

I bought two of these about 3 weeks ago from here and they both broke and can' be used now . They broke just from pushing the bottom down to start writing. Not very happy $14 dollars gone and only used1 time .

troy.mcI had the same problem with one of my two pens. Just figured out how to fix it. The spring is the problem. For some reason the springs that are supplied are cheap and if you press hard when it jams it bends out of shape and won't work again. The replacement spring turns out to be pretty generic. I went around the house pulling springs out of pens and trying them. The spring in a simple BIC Clic Stic fits and actually feels better than the original
