Product Description
New from OHTO, a Japanese pen manufacturer that’s been in the business for more than 80 years, this is an excellent fountain pen for those just starting out. The Proud features an aluminum body complete with a glossy finish, sturdy pocket clip, and gold-colored trim Read More
The OHTO Proud vs. Celsus are practically the same pen.
Here are the differences.
OHTO Proud Fountain Pen · The finial on the barrel is flat and are the same color of the pen.
· The finial on the cap is rounded and the same color of the pen.
· The gold trim ring is attached to barrel.
· The feed and nib holder are black as the grip section.
OHTO Celsus Fountain Pen · The finial is round on the cap and is gold in color.
· The barrel is one piece with no finial or gold trim ring.
· The gold trim ring is on the barrel.
· The feed and nib holder are gold matching the pen trim color.
I find both pens styles to work the same with similar weights they are very comfortable for all day writing. Found the fine nibs on both models to be very smooth with very good ink flow from the feed. I did not find the pens to be cheaply made though I will say the finish will scratch if not carried properly or dropped onto a rough surface. Your mileage may differ. If you are new to fountain pens and are looking for a decent upgrade in the full metal category, I believe you will not go wrong with these fountain pens.
Hope this helps.
I just recieved my 2 sets I ordered (1 for me and 1 as a gift). I really wish they came in a box for the pens themselves rather then the pens just tossed in a shipping envelope as they can still get damaged plus makes it more difficult to wrap.
In comparison to my daily driver of the Faber-Castell Basic, the build quality really isn't that great which I'm sad to say because I really wanted to like these. I do like how the silicone grip feels but wish the grip took up more of the surface of the pen to allow different grip styles. Thing to note about silicone though is that it can easily pick up on dust and other stuff such as hair can easily get stuck on it.
Also, one of my pens has a weird mark going around the grip which is very strange. There are also some chips in the paint. I'm not satisfied with the product right now and don't feel too comfortable gifting them at the moment..
Thanks, #MrBison - I did buy these, and I've been very happy w/ the nib that came w/ the pen. - BUT ==> it's very good to know I can get a Schmidt for a replacement, too - :)
I purchased 2 Ohto Proud pens on the previous drop and wanted to weigh in on 2 points.
1. Silicone Grip: 2 very important words and unique in my (admittedly low-end) fountain pen collection. The silicon grip means that the click-on cap has the smoothest and softest click of any pen I own, and also that the pen is more likely to feel 'room temperature' than the usual hard plastic or enameled metal grips.
2. Pay attention to the photo of the writing sample. Ohto may be a Japanese manufacturer but the nibs are European 'Fine', not Japanese 'Fine.'
I have found the two I bought to be smooth, comfortable writers.
@choiceweb0pen0 I was re-reading this discussion on the Proud. I went to check out the OHTO Giza that you mentioned. Wondering if you purchased one? If so how do you like it ? I always wonder how folks like the leather wrapped pens and how well the leather holds up after use.
If not, perhaps you could suggest a poll/drop. I don''t know how one goes about doing that, but I am sure someone that does could help you get a drop going. Just thinking with my keyboard this morning ;)
j-e-gYou know I never did pick up an OHTO Giza. I like my two OHTO Dude fountain pens well enough, though they are a bit dry in writing. If I knew a bit more about adjustment, I think I could fix that. I'm also not in the market for adding to my fountain pen collection which is another reason for not picking up a Giza.
@Magurius Thanks for the link. I checked You Tube and SBRE Brown's videos for any reviews. I didn't see one for the Proud, but he has reviews for other OHTO pens. His reviews for the F-Sprit and Tasche are favorable. Actually, he recommends both, noting that the nibs are very smooth and the overall pen designs and construction very nice.
Might have to watch for a drop on the Proud. :)

So I went to the OHTO site to figure out about there nibs and they have them all listed as Fine (made in Germany) which is not a problem for me but what I want to know is the nib size yes I get it that its a Fine nib but what I want to know if its a #6 nib can any one tell me?
