Pros: Its a nice watch. No Batteries. Great Depth Rating, Great Price, Solid Build, Clean Simple Style, Decent Loom, Keeps Time, Durable, Hacking, 120 Click Bezel, Day/Date Window, 1 Crown
Cons: Watch Bracelet, Not Sapphire Glass, Timing needed adjustment, Logo's on Back Cover & Crown don't perfectly line up
I'll start off with the cons, but before I do I want to say this is a great watch and with a little adjustment, it has become a great daily time piece.
Watch Bracelet: The metal bracelet on my watch started to scuff within the 1st week of ownership. I work a desk job, and the scuffs showed up at the base of the double clasp. Other than the cosmetic issues, the bracelet still functions flawlessly. The watch case however has yet to scratch though, so that's a great sign.
Watch Glass: The Mineral Glass is great. But as many will tell you, they prefer Sapphire Glass. My glass hasn't scratched, and has held up well enough. It sits flush with the watch case. I sort of wish the glass was slightly recessed into the case, or that the case provided more protection to the glass with a protective bezel of some sort.
Timing issues: My watch was about a minuet fast. I'd recommend that anyone having timing problems like this, take their watch into a repair shop. Timing issues could be caused by your watch becoming magnetized, or just a minor timing adjustment. Both issues can be quickly fixed if your repairmen has the proper tools, and should take no longer than 10-15 minutes. Now my watch runs about 10 seconds fast a day. It's also worth noting that if this is your 1st automatic watch, its impossible to get the timing perfect on these devices. People spend thousands of dollars to have a watch that's off by 1 second a year, so just be aware that spending a $100 isn't going to get you on that level for an automatic watch. But who knows, you could be lucky.
Pros: It's a nice watch. I have quartz watches, digital watches, and well.. my smartphone. All of these devices keep time for me, but nothing catches my interest like an automatic watch. Sort of like a record player, or tube amp. This watch has a simple, clean, and slightly classy look to it. Orient did a great job building a watch that could do well in just about any setting. Who is this watch for? Anyone really. Is this your 1st watch? This is a great option if your price tag is around $100. Already have a collection of watches? I don't see why this couldn't fit in with a collection. I'm not saying its a Omega or Rolex, but that should be reflected in the price tag. Want a dress watch? This isn't the perfect dress watch but it'll float the occasion. Want a business watch? It looks decent enough in a suit. Need a sports watch? This can fit the bill.
Over all this is a great time piece, and I really do enjoy it. I hope this helps, and thank you for taking the time to read this.
You're concern is valid. The watch does not come with a Warranty Book or Card. So no, the watch does not come with a Warranty. If it did, Orient only covers the watch from workmanship defects for 1 year.
IMHO, there is no better bang for the buck in the automatic watch world than the Mako 2. I bought mine from massdrop, and then spent some more dollars to get a different bezel with an insert to match the blue face new watch band, and sapphire crystal dome. My watch is now exactly what I want for an everyday watch, and it cost me about $280 total. I own lots of watches I have never owned a $280 watch this good. In fact I own several $500+ watches that are not this good.
Went out and bought three straps for it right away. Love this watch for its value and versatility. Great for beach, pool, weekend wear, or everyday beater for those that need a beater. Love the way the dial looks in the sun.
Just received my Orient today. Took a photo of it next to a Heitis I bought for my grandson's graduation. The Heitis was about 2.5x as much. For my tastes, I like the Orient better. Little smaller diameter which is preferable for me. I am not a fan of clocks on my wrist :)
I will definitely get a sapphire crystal and an Oyster solid end link band. That will double the cost of the watch but will make it the best it can be. Something about the style that screams "Classic".
I love watches. Have a collection that includes Hublot, Rolex, Omega, Tag and many others. The Orient Mako II with the blue starburst dial and two-tone bezel is an amazing watch for the price! The only thing I would change to take it to the next level would be a milled clasp.
