The third version in the popular Mako series from Orient, the Mako III offers even more functionality for the dive-watch enthusiast. First, the movement, an Orient F6922, now has a manual reassembly and a stop-second Read More
I bought the red dial on bracelet last drop.
The good: it’s running +7 spd, which is great for this price range. Everything is pretty well aligned, bezel pip is a touch off dead center after click. The red dial is gorgeous. Lume is just slightly below Seiko levels, which makes it better than pretty much anything else. Always nice to have sapphire and the dimensions make it easy to wear.
The Bad, The Ugly, and The Squeaky - the bracelet. It’s garbage. I received both the Kamasu and the Triton at the same time. Both of the bracelets squeak and squeal to the point I couldn’t wear them. You know that little wrist shake you do to reseat your watch on the wrist? Both watches squeaked to the point my boss looked at me wondering if I weirdly passed gas. (I did. That’s not the point.)
overall a great buy. In house movement, seemingly better quality control than Seiko on the actual watch.
I went with a Barton silicone strap as a temporary replacement since there are no bracelet options with fitted links. Even if you budget another $60-80, for under $250 it’s a great deal.
Also, the crown is a bit small and does have some Vostok levels of crown wobble. With that being said, I hand wind my watches quite a bit, and haven’t had any issues so far.
I bought one of these direct when they first came out in red. Great looking and very accurate. I swapped the sapphire crystal for a domed sapphire from crystaltimes. I didn't waste the flat sapphire as I put it on my Ray2, same size. I don't care for bracelets so I put it on a leather strap.
I think there're two models in this drop, the Kamasu and the Kano. The Kamasu (triangle at 12 like this red one) comes with sapphire. The Kano comes with mineral.
Not generally an Orient fan due to styling preferences, but I do consider them to be a decent watch for the price.
One thing I am sure of—any of these Orients will do everything @Watchyoutalkingabout ’s five-figure Rolex will do, especially for those of you with average needs (and average bank accounts) and will do the Rolex one better, if you’re also the kind of guy who now and then needs to be reminded what Day it is.
On the other hand, I’d certainly like to kick the butt of the Orient exec who decided he needed a 13-character long part number for the one model I actually do like—who the hell can remember: RA-AA0009L19B ?
Just got mine! It's really really nice. The bezel action is much better than the II. Very smooth and easy to turn. The finish on the bezel is matte black. The dial is gorgeous and has a really nice sunburst effect. I'm a huge fan of the hands because they're......huge! Tons of lume that will last all night no doubt. Also the pearl is upgraded with the lume sitting behind a little layer of glass like the skx. The Orient logo on the clasp looks nicer than on the ray/mako II. And the crystal is indeed sapphire!
They changed the dial in that they got rid of the chapter ring and replaced it with a traditional rehaut and minute markers on the dial. I think it makes this feel more expensive than the previous versions. This means the hands actually touch the minute markers which is definitely better.
Also, the date is in English and Spanish. Not Kanji like the Asian versions. This could be the exact version that we see widely available in the US soon.
Overall I'm very impressed for under $200! EXCELLENT BUY
I can't seem to bring myself to jump on the Mako, Kano, Kamasu fan wagon. +1 for the F6922 movement, and I know they have a tremendous dollar-for-dollar value if your balling on a budget, but based on the comments, I’m just not sold on the build quality. 🤔 $50 on a NH36 heart swap and another $50 on a DD sapphire upgrade and 80 towards one of those trusty SKX’s sounds a little more appealing to me.
Thanks for the feedback, you read my mind on hitting up ole Mark at the 516. They do good business. Also, I appreciate the analogies about the SKX, I absolutely agree. My first SKX has been pretty trusty and I don’t necessarily miss the hacking, winding and sapphire. It just does it’s job and doesn’t look half bad doing it. In any case, I might look into picking one of these up for the sake of it. Coincidentally this https://www.seikowatches.com/global-en/products/5sports/srpd53k1
Came across the blogosphere this morning. That styling is familiar, 👀 go figure....And I thought the mini turtle was the heir apparent to the SKX.....

milmaticI’m partial to the new green dials, especially the matte textured dial.
Just received my watch, I ordered the blue dial/ silicone band version. Here is a comparison to the Mako II USA.
* Lug to lug is 46.7mm, No drill lugs
* No chapter ring, sec/min indices are on the dial itself. Make the watch look bigger.
* Bezel action is buttery smooth, but it has more play. Lume pit is recess in to the bezel.
* Silicone band is soft very comfortable, similar to the Seiko turtle band.
* Sapphire crystal not as recess in to the bezel as the Mako II USA.
* Mako II USA end link is compatible!!! but not perfect. Strapcode here I come!
Great job Massdrop !
According to the Orient USA website, the blue dial KAMASU has the model number RA-AA0002L19* which *is* offered in this June 2019 drop as an option (SKU: RA-AA0002L19B). HOWEVER, the picture shown with that SKU is in fact a picture of the blue dial KANO (SKU: RA-AA0009L19*). So which watch will be shipped? Should I trust the SKU (KAMASU) or the picture (KANO)? I definitely want to trust the SKU. Can someone from Drop confirm?
Thanks for the update! I also received an email from support stating the same thing, SKU not photo. Makes sense since the main photo of the drop is the watch you'll get if you order (RA-AA0002L19B), the blue dial KAMASU.
Been 4 hours and the red dial is already sold out :( looks like I'm waiting for the next drop

alseoYea, it sucks. I managed to get in solely due to my patented Massdrop Sh*tter Watch Buying system of buying any watch I may remotely like under $200 immediately. No thinking, no willpower, just pure smashing of the buy button. As a result, I live in a cardboard box with many fine affordably priced watches
