Product Description
Just like the bird it’s named for, the Hummingbird Mini Flipper from Rike Knife is small, agile, and beautiful. Measuring just 3.75 inches overall, it’s not exactly a workhorse, but that’s not the point Read More
Look! Andre The Giant bought one! Thanks for the photo Edsel. I checked the sizes on my ruler and your photo really shows the scale and how diminuative it really is. I was hoping the blue would be closer to purple which is what I was was wanting for my Sister. It might even be too small for her. I hate that sellers enhance the photos that misrepresent their product. For you guys who would like a larger knife, it couldn't be called the Hummingbird.
Personally, not impressed; my old KERSHAW chive is roughly the same size, feels far more substantial, and was razor sharp, right out of the box. This seems a bit like a toy...
Exactly my thoughts. I knew it was small, but it's really small...At the same time, it's VERY impressive as far as materials and construction. It has all the features of a high end knife at a fraction of the cost...but is also a fraction of the knife. That said, it's very well done.
ZiglafIt's a tiny shard of beautiful Damasteel, honestly I didn't think I would appreciate that aspect of it until I actually had mine in hand.
It's a strange, tiny experiment in making a miniscule version of a regular full-sized framelock, a showcasing of Richard Wu's exceptional hand at anodizing and working titanium.
It's also a great way to demonstrate the art object nature of good knives to others that don't quite understand the hobby . It's only a skip and a jump from showing off the workmanship of the Hummingbird to being able to point out the excellent execution of a more plain knife like the Kizers, like the lovely-to-me Velox2, or the Crux.
I believe that this knife is a work of art and shows the capabilities and extreme precision of Rike, however I won’t be getting one because my budget is limited and I have no real-life use for it. I do believe that it is worth every penny of MD price though.
I was debating in getting one for my old lady but reality is that she couldn’t care less about knives and I would be getting it for myself LOL!
Which brings us to the point I am trying to make.
I think Rike made one mistake with this offering.
People that are most likely to be USING this knife will most likely be women that don’t carry an EDC knife but wouldn’t mind having a tiny knife to cut something the odd time they’ll have to (plus, it’s so preeeeeeetty!)
The kydex sheath, while cool, was a bad choice IMO.
Most women will not carry a neck knife.
Most men that will carry a neck knife will most likely carry something a bit more …. huuumm …. manly and useful.
IMO, what should have been included in this offering, is a nice tiny fitted leather pouch to match the knife instead of the kydex sheath (or even better, to complement the kydex sheath). This would have been a better match towards the demographic that this tiny knife targets to.
Women could carry it in their purse.
The odd men that would actually use this tiny knife could drop it in their pocket.
This tiny work of art would be protected all around.
Just my 2c.
bdpfAs a man, I carry a larger knife when I know I’m going to be using it a lot or if I’m wearing jeans.
But if I’m wearing dress pants, I prefer a smaller and more decorative knife like this one.
Cyn1cTotally understandable and that's why my point was to explain why a small leather pouch would have been a better idea than the provided kydex sheath.
It would take less space in your dress pants, protect the knife better and a leather pouch is classier than the kydex sheath, especially when wearing dress pants.
The closest Thor to the Hummingbird is the 6, AKA the Bumblebee.
It's absolutely stunning even in the more plain production versions, but to see the ones Richard Wu went all in on, oh wow. His Instagram is a parade of pretty colors and intense milling.
browncoreNot expensive at all for what it is. It may be Chinese, but Rike is a class act despite the country of origin. Not to mention, this fits a specific niche. This is the worlds smallest frame lock flipper. Plus, it rides on ceramic bearings and has a steel lockbar insert. The real cost comes from the blade, which is Damasteel. Of course, this is an opinion, but to me this knife is worth every penny.
This is a beautiful piece of work. If it was only a bit larger, perhaps I could see it. Or find it if I purchased it. I would like to see this offered with a plain polished blade (decent stainless steel) and the same scales. MD would likely part me from more of my money. I prefer having a known steel over Damascus. Given that this unknown Damascus clocks in at HRC 58-59, I would be comfortable with it. Maybe if I soaked in it a solution of multivitamins overnite, it might grow......and develop a nice patina.
14themoneyThis a very well known steel it is branded DAMASTEEL made from powdered steels and is actually a stainless damascus with a very high cost on much larger knives! Do yourself a quick Google search for damasteel and read up....
Aumank33I was familiar with Damasteel when I read the description of this knife. I do not recall seeing the name, only the descriptive term, Damascus. Everything that goes under the name of Damascus is not equal. I have not problems with Damasteel.
Hey group! We were able to negotiate our cost, resulting in better drop pricing for everyone. Thanks for participating in the discussion and we hope the new price is more appealing for this beautiful little knife. Have a great weekend! @method_burger@Thatonecat@CAdestiny@BoxBlade@JakeSizzle
