Product Description
Sturmanskie, which means “navigator” in Russian, is one of the few remaining Russia-based watch manufacturers. One of just 2,000 pieces, this limited-edition timepiece is styled just like the watch that Yuri Gagarin, the first man in space, wore on his 1961 journey that would change the course of history forever Read More

TRUE FACT: In the Russian remake of the film "Interstellar", Matthew McConaughey's Russian double gives his young daughter "Murphski", a Sturmanskie Gagarin Limited-edition Automatic watch instead of the Hamilton Khaki Murph watch used in the American version of the film.
search
The switch up had disastrous unforeseen consequences: because the Sturmanskie Gagarin Limited-edition Automatic watch isn't actually capable of sending Morris Code, Matthew McConaughey's Russian double wasn't able to communicate the secrets of the future back to young Murphski, who therefore wasn't able save the earth! In the last scene of the Russian version, the entire population of the earth perishes as the planet bursts into flames and explodes! While opinions on the subject differ, many Russians blame the Sturmanskie Gagarin Limited-edition Automatic watch (and to some degree, the depressing ending) for the film's failure ultimate failure at the Russian box-office. Accordingly, copies of the Russian film are extremely rare--as are instances of Russians actually wearing a Sturmanskie Gagarin Limited-edition Automatic watch!

Nice and fun looking piece, with its vintage design and russian texting. The price is also decent, even though I'm clueless about the quality of the Vostok movement. I'd be highly tempted, had I not just purchased the ugliest watch on earth to funk my collection up (or down, depending on the perspective): a 1976 Orient LCD watch.

"fun looking piece, with its vintage design and Russian texting."?!!! I'm sure you meant to say "Russian text" vs "texting"--so far as I know, those damn Russians might have been the first to sneak a fellow into space back in the sixties, but they damn sure didn't invent texting (that came much later when Comrade Trumpksy discovered Twitter).

And by the way, as Comrade @Mike987 reminds us, it's not Russian text, the Cyrillic alphabet which actually comes to the Russians compliments of the Bulgarians (Tsar Simeon the Great to be specific, just incase any of his relatives happen to be following along).

Congrats on the Orient--pretty sure they snagged that design from Tsar Pulsar, by the way ;- )

The description says lifetime warranty, but further down it says 2 year warranty. Which one is it?

I am convinced it is impossible to catch everything in these listings. Anyway, it is a two year warranty from our company supported by the manufacturer.

They are saying, people old enough to recall the significance of the event this watch commemorates are not expected to live longer than two more years.

What's the case thickness? Based on the side view ratios and 40mm diameter, looks to be about 13mm?

Of course this drop comes back up right after I finally pulled the trigger and won an auction for a 1950s original. Seems like an even lower price this time around, really tempting to have both the original and this modern reproduction.
