I did not buy them from Drop, but had a revelation using them and wanted to share my experiences with the community. For reference, my daily driver gear includes:
THX AAA 789
SMSL SU-8
Sennheiser HD580
Beyerdynamic T1
Tin T2 Pro
Sennheiser IE 8
Hiby R3
Chord Mojo
Samsung Galaxy Note 8
I was using the Balance 7's via balanced 2.5mm straight from my Hiby R3 for about a month on the road and felt that they were pretty anemic. Bass was subdued and shallow, mids where hollow and highs felt grainy. I was pretty upset that they sounded terrible, even after getting them for a good price. The detail was there, but the depth of stage and tonality were just off.
All that changed when I got home and plugged them into things with more power. And while on the AAA they sounded quite a bit better, it wasn't until I plugged them into the Mojo did things blossom. Bass was more authoritative, fast, and rumble/decay was finally present. Tonality in the mids and highs sounded more realistic and better balanced against the bass presence.
Unfortunately straight from the R3 and other basic sources such as my phone and laptop outputs, the Balance 7's were very disappointing. However when attached to something with more power, they get quite a bit better. As they are open earphones I am now happy to use them in a transportable setup for use in the hotel room, etc. but for full portable setups, these are a no-go, considering the open nature and power requirements.
Hope this is fair warning for anyone interested in picking these up. Overall I am happy with them, baring some caveats. For truly portable use I will stick to my IE 8's and T2 Pro's.
I can’t wait to read the initial reviews and thoughts on these “IEMs”. I really like my Audeze iSine 10s, and like seeing the innovation of various competitors. It’s just that these are quite a bit more than what I paid for the iSine 10s.
Has anyone listened to these? I'm interested in picking-up a pair of planar earphones, and this price-point is tempting, but I've found almost no reviews.
KattoJesuNo one said they were the same drivers, it's just another well known, and at the time, much cheaper, and possibly better and safer option. Where did you come up with that?
Why don't the vendors of speakers and earbuds provide a frequency response? (Not only this vendor does not). Much to read from that. I suggest Drop should put that up as a mandatory requirements, to the benefit of us, the potential customers.
chjanThing is there is no standard equipment that will give a true value. It can just get close, and people's different calibrations can give different graphs.
AbohirDrop should just invest in equipment and rate everything themselves. If someone buys a pair and compares what they hear to the Drop graph, they'll have a better picture of how other products will sound based on the graphs as long as Drop can measure everything with the same equipment. Probably easier said than done, I doubt the same tools are used to measure headphones AND IEMs. Also I have no clue what kind of investment that would be, but I think most people would agree the consistency would help making informed buying decisions.
that is a massive diaphragm... wonder how these compare with the tin audio p1's and the toneking bl1's.
tbh despite the name balance the look kinda unbalanced /:
FatDoihmm... i feel like there would be more magnet and "coil" surface area making it more sensitive and easier to drive. the P1 has the smallest diaphragm out of the three IEMs I mentioned.
Have fun trying to get those horizontal bars even while sitting in your ear. I may never see it in my own ear, but I'd be walking around constantly fiddling with it because I was paranoid that the logo was crooked...
I don't want to spend the money on these now that Audeze just released the new LCD-i3, gonna try and save up for those, since the i4 is pretty much out of my reach price wise.
FrogmeatAgree. Me too I'm thinking to LCDi3. I had LCDi4 but when compared to Andromeda i sold it and bought Isine 20 as planar have interesting sound.
