TFZ has been on a roll, earning rave reviews from members of Massdrop, Head-Fi, and other audio forums on everything from its Series 5 to the Exclusive Series. These IEMs feature the two-pin removable cables of the Exclusive Series and take it to the next level with 12-millimeter dual magnetic circuit graphene drivers Read More
Could anyone explain to me what the price differences represent between the versions? I'm interested but cant really tell why the my love or 4 is distinguished from the 2.
AyAdenMy gut instinct says no, but at $35 for the Series 2 you're already saving a massive amount for what seems like a very decent product even at the MSRP. Just looking at the specs there doesn't seem to be that much difference between them, but reviews online say otherwise.
Just bought the tfz ex5 and I already have the ex kings, I was thinking how great it would be if tfz would release the series 7's or some other company would combine the double coil graphene dynamic driver with a couple of Knowles ba's into a hybrid. Then I suddenly saw the new Bgvp dm5's with graphene driver + 2ba and mmcx!!!!! For $65 bucks shipped to boot. I pulled the trigger, will let everyone know how they all compare when it comes in 2 weeks.
JVC Spiral Dots:
What i use daily, it smoothens out the frequency range across the board while still keeping it kind of exciting, turns down sibilance and it increases size. They definetly aren't fatiguing any longer, which i recall was a big issue. The negative is that the midbass gets slightly reduced, this makes the transition from sub bas to female vocals slightly uneven, it's a very negligible though, especially at the trade of losing the fatigue and sibilance.
+size
+sound
+no fatigue
-slightly uncomfortable
-slightly thin sounding relative to other options
Comply Foam Tips T400:
These are very specific, these are for female vocals and subbass, pretty much exclusively. In this combination the female vocals seem to gain more depth and airiness to them. The overall sound is more sedate and tranquil, though the high energy in the upper mids is a stark and contradictory contrast to that. The upper mids can tend to distort very slightly yet noticably at higher volumes. The soundstage is pretty much nonexistent, the sound is in the very center of your head and reaches out to about where your ears are. The frequency response gets kind of whack so the transition from bass to mids is really unnatural. Despite the negatives, I had a blast when listening to songs such as Venezuela Trains by Ravyn Lanae.
+ heavy focus on female vocals
+female vocals gain depth
+sedate
+no fatigue
-slight distortion
-male singers lose right to preform
-no soundstage, though might be preferable to some. (hey, im not judging)
Spinfits:
The most comfortable option. The sound closly resembles the Spiral Dots but it's a bit warmer and it has more body. The spinfits does this thing where the sound sounds big, yet it kind of thunnels into your ear in a way that decreases the size along the way. The imaging is not as good as on the spiral dots because of this. The reason i don't use these is that there is still a very, very tiny sparkle in the highs that still seem to sharp, it's almost as if you can't hear it, but it's gnawing at you in the back of your head, causing some fatigue.
+comfort
+midbass (more body!)
+warmer (im very neutral about this though)
-slight fatigue (at higher volumes)
-wierd thunneling
Overall the zs5 don't seem to like my Oppo-Ha2 yet it loves my old Samsung Galaxy s5. The zs5 is a bit bright and overbearing on the oppo while being warmer and more natural sounding on my phone, so i'm assuming something like a tube amp would work pretty well since they're often regarded as warmer.
Also, there is a chance that you have the second revision of the zs5, which has both BA drivers in the nozzle. You can check this by shining a light through the grill of the nozzle, if there's two holes in the nozzle you have the second revision. apperantly the second revision is supposed to be pretty bad. I have the first revision and im happy with them, though i'd only listen to a very specific type of music with these so don't get the zs5 for an all 'rounder duty.
Please excuse me if what i said was incorrect or missleading, there was a lot of jumping back and forth, im just tired and wondering why im practically writing an essay at 2am.
Good linear and natural bass presentation, easily the most mature of all TFZ models yet. Doesn't have the clarity of the Exclusive King, but bass is far more neutral and mids are less restrained.
ZachLI have joined basically all of the tfz drops. All of their headsets are my favorite for different functions. I can see visibly that there are some ports on these that are not on any of the models I have. Also the removable cables are new and awesome. These have a smaller driver than the 5 and 5s by .05mm. Possibly could affect bass a bit but I dunno if you could hear the difference much and the port would even help with that so it is probably a non issue. That brass port though is tempting... I really wonder what these sound like with that.
smallbitCan somebody please confirm that the metal port is functional or just for decoration since it is replaced by a "diamond" on the "love" version?
but... but.... but....
didn’t we just have the last group buy cancelled on us by Massdrop?
Why are we returning to a company and buy that failed the last attempt at this drop?
TiffanyPoodleslideYeah I had my Series 4s cancelled by Massdrop too. Not keen to jump on another TFZ anything until they prove they can actually deliver stock.
As a owner of the Exclusive 5's and a Shure SE215m+, how do they compare to the Series 2/4? I noticed that the Series 2/4 have a slightly bigger driver than the Ex5. I'm relatively happy with them but I sometimes feel like there's not enough clarity with the pairs I have.
Erak606Apologies if my description is not very in depth, as I am just beginning to get into audiophile-grade sound.
As a background, I usually listen to Rap/Hip-Hop and quite a lot of Techno, so I am very fond of IEM's with prominent lows and mids, and less prominent highs. I tend to like neutral-to-darker sounding IEM's. I listen to everything out of my LG V20. I own the following IEM's: Sennheiser IE80, Shure SE215, TFZ Series 2, and Sony MH1c.
I own the Series 2 and the Shure SE215 (clear ones). Compared to the SE215, the Series 2 have a brighter sound, and more prominent bass. I would say that the separation on the Series 2 is tad cleaner than SE215. The bass on the SE215 is cleaner though (like a quick, punchy bass). I have to say for $35, the TFZ 2's are quite a steal. I find myself listening to them more than my SE215. I will say, though, that isolation on the SE 215 is amazing (with foam tips), and i find myself struggling to find good isolation at times on the Series 2 with the stock tips.
Currently, I'm actually waiting for my shipment of the the Exclusive 5's (which I am very exited for), and may join this drop for the My Love II's.
