50 ohms at 6,400 dB Hello? God? Is that you?

postwarscarsWow 6400 db’s that could split the earth in two or maybe cause a blackhole to open up.

Will this power the 800S nicely? Currently rocking LCD-X with ADI-2 DAC but will only get this if I’m futureproofed for my next headphone purchases.

A90 is 7 watts at 32 if I recall correctly and the V550 is 6.4 at 50 ohms. Not too much difference almost identical at 50 I believe.

Correction this one is about 30% more powerful at most ohm loads than the Topping.

Can this really hit 6,400 dB? This seems unsafe for the universe.

seg_fault_1234It does emit tachyons but so far it has not effected the space time continuum.

If the sound hits that level he'd be dead for hours before you can even hear it :p

Thanks for getting back I have their niimbus us4 and it is superb. I have read opinions of the v590 from owners of the amp and they are happy with that one. The V590 has an rrp of $3500 so being able to pick up (somewhat) the amp only at $2500 seems well priced to me. But I understand audio preferences are subjective. How have you found the niimbus or v580 or even the v281 when you heard any of those? Please also share what you thought of the manley amp too from when you heard it as I have no opinion on that one as I have never heard it. (Apologies for any incorrect assumptions I may have made in this paragraph above) All the best

kawmicIt's an open market. This amp will sound the same as $400 topping but you get German Engineering and a remote. It's better to have options, than none.

Why would the gain switches be on the rear? Seems like a design flaw.

Actually the oppostie, Violectric themselves say in their manual the pre gain is for matching the volume with various headphones.

HirakYou can look at it from either side but you're achieving the same thing. Since some headphones are more efficient than others and some DAC's have a higher output, you're trying to adjust the volume control so that you have sufficient gain and yet not too much gain. The goal is to have the volume control roughly around 12:00 when listening at a comfortable level.

Power ratings compared. The V550 is more powerful at 50 ohms and 32 ohms. In the last several years the trend of headphone manufacturers has been low impedance drivers. The V550 design maximizes power output to optimize performance for current model headphones.

ArthurPowerGot in on Drop. I think the V281 had a special thing going with Sennheiser headphones. Who seems to have a thing about 600 ohms. I do need a favor tho. January 3rd or 4th would you please drop Fried a line stating OffRamp bought this amp. I have to contact him on the 4th as he and I discussed about a build up.

This seems to be based off the V590 amp with the DAC taken out? https://headfonics.com/violectric-dha-v590-review/

Marcus22687Have you ever looked at audiosciencereview.com? There is a cat named amirm that does reviews with graphs like Hursh...Julian Hursh for noise. I have really been pursuing this site. Fried is on this site too speaking up about this very amp. From what I can see this amp is almost middle of the road but amirm really likes it. Fried said he couldn’t sleep one night because of what they were saying and he answered himself concerning the power outputs. You know anything about this site?

owner of a HPA V281 + V850B here. Would this be a major upgrade over my current setup? Thinking about selling the stack but cannot make up my mind regarding the next best thing. Thanks and Cheers!

Thanks for the insights. Thing is I have the opportunity to get a FAD D8000 pro for a good price from a buddy of mine and that's why I am wondering if I should keep my current set. I fell in love Benchmark HPA4 and i am really struggling to justify such a purchase/trade.

jer0nPersonally, I think that the Violectric gear you have is so good that unless you spend astrobucks you will not improve on them. Not sure what headphones you are using at present, but the V281/V850 are endgame components for many Head-Fi enthusiasts. So, you won't do much better no matter how much more you spend. Not familiar with the FAD D8000 but I know they are very expensive and marketed as a TOTL planar headphone. The HPA V550 would be a better a match with the D8000 in that the V550 puts out a lot more power in the 32 - 50 ohm range than the V281 does. Do you know what the exact impedance on the D8000 is? Have you been able to listen to them with the V281? On an aside, if you ever decide to add some tube warmth you can always add a good tube buffer to this system which will give it even more flexibility. And it's a lot cheaper than buying an expensive tube headphone amp. 😊

2,500 for what essentially is a downgraded V281. Hard Pass.

Less voltage delivery but looks like a lot more current delivery. This looks like a better match for the majority of modern headphones.

novicezWhy do you think it's downgraded V281 ?
