cavillasenorlI’ve been thinking Drop does end of life things sometimes. This has been out for quite sometime and could be entering end of life. Might come down to getting rid of inventory, you might get what you want
OfframpYou would be accurate but EOL can bring great savings and enjoyment. This isn't a new thing, Drop has been sourcing products that are being terminated by their manufacturer since before I joined. That life cycle is the basis of most of their collabs. Love my UD-501 and HE500... both bought when discontinued, my receiver... yep bought the 6012 when the 6013 came out. I will let everyone else pay the "New Tax"... I like my modus operandi
ElectronicVicesYeah actually I have no problem with end of life stuff.
I researched Headfonia and the review for this DAC, read other reviews on other DAC’s.
I really don’t want a Burr-Brown dac, an AK4499 would be super. Topping offers a DAC with the AK dac and DSD processing for a few hundred less. After reading the review Liven did the 850 and he did state the 850 would win but not by a blow out. Chord is everybody’s favorite DAC and this guy can hang with it at almost half price. Keeping in mind that this will hook to three different amps that are all night and day from each other, ( one being an electrostatic). I’m going to put up and shut up. I just hope 4 buyers join me.
Talking about recordings the fact that they had hi-res back in the sixties but gave us the LP.
Had hi-res in the eighties but gave us the CD. Then low and behold, look kids the hi-res is here.
I will not be exchanging my collection over to hi-res but anything new I buy I will try to find a hi-res alternative and save it properly...
OfframpI'm more interested in the master (how it was done and who did it) than the format, I own albums on a variety of formats and don't see any one as universally superior. The DSD is an issue for me but not a big one, I only own two albums in .dsf format and I've not taken to ripping my SACD's (just yet). As not all my SACD's are hybrid I would be have to convert during playback and I like to avoid additional processing layers when possible.
ElectronicVicesFound out they are coming with new stuff that will blow this stuff away.
Tremendous flexibility and features of DACs that cost 3k and up. Niimbus is
one of their lines but the DACs aren’t out yet. It’s great stuff but can it stand up to Mytek
and what they’re doing.
