Just received my TA-01 the other day and am enjoying the sound. Can't wait to try some new tubes with it though. The only thing that bugged me is that there is a slight imbalance in the potentiometer. I opened it up to see what I was dealing with and I was quite surprised at what I found. Instead of 2 WM8740 DACs I was met with 2 CS4398 DACs. I'm not too bothered by this as my other DAC uses an AK4490 and I was just looking for something different, but still surprised to see xDuoo pull a switch like that without notification. Anyone else have these DACs as well?

Then you should not trust Massdrop as well. They are in the same boat, responsible for the products they sell.

I would think Massdrop would be concerned about charges of fraud, considering they continue to tout this as having Wolfson WM8470 DAC chips, when it apparently has CS4398 chips. Personally I wouldn't be hung up on the performance difference, but they've had plenty of time to fix the description. It casts doubt on every other spec they list.

The comment with pictures showing the chipset is 43 weeks old. If I was selling it, I'd take that pretty seriously, and would hope it wouldn't take me 43 weeks to get around to fixing the description.

Look down-thread. A comment with pictures showing the cirrus chips. It's been 43 weeks since those pics were posted. If you were selling it, would you have addressed the discrepancy by now?

I was all set to make the leap until I heard that the CD that comes with the unit has Windows 10 drivers that don't work. Any company that can do that is off the board for me. I am not a techie and do not have time to figure things like that out. Either it is plug-and-play or I don't play

Driver is on the website.
Would this be recommended for the Hifiman HE-400i's or would the drivers not work well enough. I'm using windows 10/ Would any other dac/amps be better than this? I might get other headphones with more ohms or power needed like the HD6xx or k7xx. Would this work with an Samsung S7?

"Maybe Tube amp + "funny" DT990PRO would be a much "bassy" combination? " I had the premium not the pro from about 10 years ago. I recently gave it to a friends kid who is in band class for his keyboard and the xduoo amp loaned out also right now. The RME amp/dac is neutral and when I had the dt-990's they still were too bass heavy for me hooked into the RME. But hay, they may be fine for you. Its really hard recommending headphones.

RottenRodneyAlso if you read the first comments on this thread I made a big mistake on not waiting for the hifimans to completely break in before giving an opinion. I am now gun shy about recommendations for phones. I dont want to steer someone wrong.

I am wondering if pairing this with HD6XX is a good idea as my PC attached DAC/AMP. Any thoughts?

To people that can't find drivers since Xduoo removed them from the site and have only found the XMOS eval drivers: XMOS offers a free, stereo-only driver that doesn't inundate you with beeps every five minutes after the demo period is done. You can find it if you make an account at XMOS.com Edited to remove dead link.

Id the XD-05 portable with a battery?
I actually obtained an FX-Audio DAC-X7 review sample and still waiting on official driver but it sounds sweet. I do have a DAC-X6 too and upgraded the opamp but I think the xduoo will be much better than the X6. I read Mullard, Groove Tubes and Gold Lion tubes work wonders in these.

rslataraYes, the XD-05 is portable with a built-in Micro-usb charged battery. It's a bit heavier than the SoundBlaster E5 and much heavier than the E17k. I wouldn't carry the XD-05 around in my pocket but I do move it between rooms when watching movies w/headphones. Maybe some others who also ordered the TA-01 will chime in with their experience with it. All of my xDuoo products work great with my iMac (no drivers req'd).

The DAC chip described on the xDuoo TA-01 product page is WM8740 and the description on this drop says the DAC is a WM8470. Is this a typo in the description or is the Massdrop DAC shipped with something else? Is the DAC chip we're getting less than the standard offering? The Astell&Kern AK120 has a Dual Wolfson WM8740 DAC and not a WM8470 DAC.
The Massdrop DAC typo (maybe) in the product description page and the Trojans discovered in the driver download from the xDuoo website have forced me out of this drop. Bummer as I purchased a tube for this device today.

A google image search would've pulled out where I found the internal PCB, but since you went ahead and assumed that it's a stock photo without doing a search yourself (seriously?), here's a direct link to the entire disassembly. http://speaker.yesky.com/pics/162/35267662_16.shtml
As for malicious code on website, Malwarebytes isn't the greatest software you would rely on as a firewall, not even Google Chrome's blocker
And just like McAfee garbage antivirus, it was very likely a false alarm. In case you're going to wonder on what did I base this claim on...below is a link that shows the number of false alarms on the antiviruses out in the market. MS Security Essentials being 0, ESET NOD32 having 1....oh look, McAfee with 10. http://www.av-comparatives.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/avc_fps_201503_en.pdf
So yeah, this product has been on Massdrop more than a few times already. I was one of the few to buy this here when they did the first drop and even helped them fix the specs they missed out on (RCA doubles both input and output instead of just input). If the malware was such a serious issue that existed, this would've been picked up ages ago.

reaching The driver on the cd was corrupted and I had to use the ones that were linked to on Amazon in the customer questions and answers section under this amp. If you trust the link it is(gave me pause to, but I needed the drivers)---> https://mega.nz/#F!hCBkVBDA!BgS6cuIjKbD0seDxDGKBNQ . Its the xmos version 3.0. I have no issues with this driver in either foobar or tidal in Windows 10.
