The knife is smooth because of its Pivot system? That's some nothing speak right there. Steel bearings? Ceramic bearings? Phosphor bronze washers? Teflon? These phrases would actually mean something. Every folding knife has a"pivot system". It's annoying enough when they don't mention pivot hardware at all, but when they go out if their way to mention it, yet tell you absolutely nothing, it drives me nuts. This car is super fast because of its engine system! This clothing is super durable/comfortable because of its fabric system!
Okay, done ranting now.
I actually used this knife to kill a zombie.
Took forever, very messy too, and after all that work--turned out not to be a zombie after all!
Very frustrating experience--not a knife I can recommend .
** CANADA **
The CBSA seized this knife, they state that it is a "weapon" that can be opened with one hand by pushing the flipper tab with one finger.
I advice fellow Canadians to avoid purchasing this and any other knives that open one handed. :-(
I guess that leaves us with nail groove blades.
Oh, and I have a Karambit coming that o am sure it will be seized as well, any thoughts
UPDATE 1 Oct 2018
I received a letter from the Recourse Directorate (the trade appeals unit) with their response to my appeal. Their finding is that the Bestech Hornet is a prohibited weapon.
The basis of their decision seems to be solely on the deployment method "by applying pressure to the knife's flipper or protrusion, the blade opened automatically to the extended position. This is considered opening automatically by hand pressure applied to a button, spring or other device in or attached to the handle of the knife".
It is important to note that the device (flipper tab) is NOT in or on the handle, but on the blade itself, but they concluded that such a flipper protrudes from the handle and is, in fact, considered to be a device attached to the handle. Oh well...
I think that there are other factors not considered such as the law is mostly meant to prohibit the import of knives like balisongs or switchblades; I see a sheep's foot more like a box cutter or even a carving knife (not a weapon). There is also a loophole in the letter of the law as the device is not attached to the handle. In any case, someone with more patience than I can pick up that legal battle, perhaps some sort of class action.
I have 3 options: appeal again to the Canadian International Trade Tribunal, arrange for a return of the knife using a bonded courier who can transport dangerous goods (at exorbitant rates), or abandon the knife. I give up.
spaceweaselSure, my response is childish, I'll own that. However, you seem blissfully unaware that you made an irrelevant political comment and then gets their panties in a bunch when someone bristles.
Don't be that guy, Guy.
Mine showed up today. Shipped one day later than originally promised.
I ordered the red scales. Love the knife but wish the backspacer was not gold anodized. Anyone know if can be changed out?
Those SOBs better not be on the endangered list. They propagate so fast that there is at least one in EVERY couch. I wonder if the furniture manufacturers have considered gassing their factories. Or even calling Orkin? Could they be in cahoots with the Sock Gremlin Syndicate. Inquiring Minds want to know!
I wasn't going to buy this. NO. Not now. I have already spent more than a car payment on knives this month. But then, I looked at a video. (Satan made me do, doncha' know.) https://youtu.be/d1X4E_ju9tM. And LTK had one in green. About half way thru the video I'm thinking, maybe I should get one. I punched JOIN DROP after the video. Bo and lehold! Green was a choice. And when I looked at the price, MD had already put my $10.00 coupon on the invoice that I got from buying a knife too recently from here. So as I write, I am on the list. At $50.00, this is a very good price. I did not see it under $60 anywhere else. If the HT is well done, this blade will survive a lot of abuse. In case you don't want to watch the video, the bearings are caged ceramic. Very smooth action. (Note to self- stop looking at knife ads.)
Lol was just a joke in response to your "you got it" comment
But, yeah, maybe I'll try entering a couple of of these days 👍
Sounds like you have WAY better luck in contests than me though lol
Found a review that says the bearings and detent ball are ceramic. The review was positive saying it was a "great knife for a little over$50" but did say this knife is part of Bestech's value line models.
I just got this delivered last night. Overall first impressions are good, but there is some weird marks on the blade, on each side. Some of them look like small scratches, as if from a fine grit sandpaper. I know it wasn't caused by sandpaper, but that's what it looks like. The other marks look like when a piece of metal with some protecting oil on it is wrapped in plastic wrap or film, and you can see the ridges lines from the plastic. Hard to explain, hope my photos show this. Debating on returning because of these blemishes.
Any advice is much appreciated. I do have some Flitz polish at home I was going to use to try and remove the marks too.
I'm very glad you didn't get your flexor tendon. I hope the rest of your Christmas was Merry. I picked up my Gihei nakiri and started to take the plastic cover off. It already was. I am nursing cuts on fingers 3, 4, and 5. They weren't deep enuf for stitches, but the are quite irritating. I hope you heal without any infection setting in.
14themoneyYeah, it was close to the tendon the doctor said. She said "Your knife must be sharp, it's a really clean cut". Apparently so. Yeah, the rest was good. It was only a 2 round trip to the ER. Half hour there, an hour to get stitches, then a half hour back to the party. So far, no real pain or puss. I should be good hopefully. Good luck with the fingers!
