Hey there, couple of questions. What would you think would be the closest to stock sound for the Sundara; the stock Pali Pads (or the new revision), the Dekoni Elite Hybrids, or the Dekoni TH-900 Elite Hybrids?
A bit long, but thanks!
BigblackcornI guess if people think it's ok for a pair of pads to cost $79 or half of the price of the headphones (DT770) they should buy them. I owned Dekoni pads and not only they totally ruined the sound but were uncomfortable and fell apart after 6 mounts of low use. I wouldn't bet on their top craftsmanship. Plus how hard is to put few stitches on a fabric around a foam?
Well, the reviews are in: the pads enhance the treble, they attenuate the treble, they don't change the sound at all. They are better than the originals, they are worse than the originals, they are the same.
So, I think I'll buy them, I won't buy them, I might buy them...
Hey, anyone know the dimension to those?
I own a Philips Fidelio X2 but they dont make any replacement pads for those and i cant find anything proper on youtube/aliexpress either.
These here looks quite nice, but not sure if they fit :/
It's always hard to reach the same level of sound when changing pads.
If you think it's nearly 90% so it's a good option.
As you glued it, it will be not possible to roll back in some weeks.
I like to use new pads for two or three weeks and then turn back to the originals.
As you start geting used to the new ones, you may have a different opinion about the originals.
But if you think it's 90% like the original and it brought you extra comfort, this is going to stay on my list when I decide to get a new one.
Thank you
Alexever17Bless your soul for the leap of courage to buy and try and still review for us. I was about to look for a replacement set for my Fidelios too <3
Both the standard HE, and the susvara?
@hifiman and @DekoniAudio aaaand @Drop
someone aughta test these on Deva or he5xx and give us an official confirmation. This isn’t something the community needs to speculate on.
if they were compatible with the Deva/5xx, I would buy them in a heartbeat.
I just got a pair of these in sheepskin. Does anyone know of any easy way to remove the crackling sound that happens when I put the headphones on. I believe its because the air is being pushed out through the driver when the ear pads are being compressed. This didn't happen with the original pads where the air could maybe escape through the pads instead of out the back of the headphone.
I do not have anything to say about Dekoni pads for this particular series (HE). I do have the hybrid Dekonis for my AKG Massdrop K7XX which were great. For my Hifiman HEs I took @Solderboy23 's recommendation and went with the Oval Cowhide from ZMF Headphones, bought the cheap Amazon pads for the rings (all linked above) by posters on the Solderboy23's thread, installed them and dang! I thought that the original pads were very comfortable and the overall headphones sounded great. I cannot stress how much the ZMF cowhide oval pads gave the HE4XX so much more life. Before installing the pads I went thru a list of different genres of music I listen to and also some songs that I put new equipment through. From Brutal metal, Dying Fetus, to Corelli's La Folia live performance, Cardi B Bodak Yellow (because of the bass phrases especially during the chorus, which I can actually listen different notes on my Fostex Ebony) to Take Five by Dave Brubeck and other tracks.
The very first thing I noticed is that the soundstage opened up. This must be because my ears are father away from the drivers and the material continues to drive the sound to my ears without distorting but with a slight volume drop which I expected. It was like putting on the pads changed the phones to some with higher impendance needing some more power with the amp and also getting that same response in the quality one seems to get with higher impendance headphones.
During some of the brutal death metal songs and some of the more hardcore 90's alternative songs, with the original pads the mid and mid to high frequencies were muddled and it was difficult to discern between the different instruments. With the ZMF pads there was a complete opennes to these tracks and I could easily identify each of the toms, vocals, guitars, bass. It was a completely different experience listening to "everything" on those hard tracks. On the classical and jazz side of music where there insturments are already pretty much identifiable and there is not A LOT going on you can pick up on the slightest details that I didn't before with the original pads. Clear high first strings and in the background the second strings, violas and chellos. The little drum solo in Take Five was just glorious with new pads on. Just the slightest of details brought to life. On the "bass heavy" hip hop and EDM the there is more clarity overall and the bass again is more detailed but only very slightly boosted which I did not expect to get a huge boost as these cans aren't for listening to bass cannon type songs. The attack of kickdrums whether on a real drumset or from EDM tracks was punchier again not to say louder, just more clear.
Given the fact that space is wider in music I tried playing some computer games with these cans on and positional "sense" was great as well as the details in the effects. It changed the experience greatly with the same phones just different pads.
I had never rolled pads but this completely changed the complete experience I get from my HiFiMan 4XXs. Completely recommend the ZMF cowhide even if took some work and different parts to get them fitted on the phones. Unfortunately I can't say what any of the Dekoni pads would have done to the phones but since it was talked about on the forum thread I want to +1 on the ZMF pads. Just sharing the experience with my fellow community.
Happy listening.
MatrolenThanks for sharing your pad rolling experience!
Our real sheepskin leather pads also are deeper (ears further from the driver) than stock for a similar effect of increased soundstage and slight volume drop. We don't use cowhide, however, because when we tested the thicker material we found it to be less supple and trap heat more than sheepskin - it felt like holding a wallet against your ears! If you tried ZMF’s lambskin, well... lambs are just young sheep!
ZMF makes great products, and were awesome to chill next to at AXPONA this year! We provide a few more material options.
