Hi everyone,  We’re back with an update on the Durston 40L Backpack. After production initially wrapped up, our vendor found that parts of the straps weren’t made to spec. As a result, the vendor is remaking them, which now puts us at a new estimated ship date of mid-June.  We apologize for the additional delay here and look forward to getting these packs in your hands as soon as possible.  If you decide that you’d rather not wait the additional time, you may cancel your order via your Transactions page at http://drop.com/transactions.
I agree it would have been good to email everyone in addition to posting the notice here.

Not knowing is a killer. However, there are thirty million folks out of work, most cities and states are slow to reopen, some doors will be permanently shut, and there's no telling what will happen tomorrow. I believe Drop has a main HQ in SF, Ca, maybe other places. Dunno. They might be scrambling to put food on the table for their fam. I'm sure if they had info and could, they would chime in.
Hi everyone,  We’re happy to announce that the backpacks have arrived at our warehouse and shipping is set to begin shortly. You can expect to receive tracking information within the next few days. Thanks so much for your patience. We’re excited to get these to you soon.

Like the front pocket but wish the front section was fully enclosed. I tend to use the front pocket as place to stuff everything including small items.

It was listed in a separate grey box above one of the pictures. It said $120 for early-bird, and $150 standard price after that. It looks like that page has since been removed.

Just received my backpack today! Love the colors in person, looked white with olive green on site, more of a gray xpac with a hunter green xpac. Weighed it, it weighs 925.5 grams, which is about two ounces over spec for the M/L. Not a deal breaker to me, but mildly disappointing... Sewing looks good all around and don't notice any blemishes. Little disappointed in the shoulder strap pockets. My phone doesn't fit in either of them :( Here is a picture of my phone (Moto G7, 6.2") in the pocket. Kinda weird to me how they joined on the pocket to make it a pouch instead of using the strap as the backing for the pocket (hard to explain). I have two pictures attached, one showing the front of the pocket with my phone squeezing in there, and one picture showing how the fabric folds over and attaches by where the zipper is. I think it would have used less material and made a larger pocket to use the strap as the back of the pocket instead of the folded over material. Another interesting choice that was made in design was to join the shoulder straps to the bottom of the pack via the hipbelt pocket wings. (Another picture attached to show). Looks to be a point of failure in the future with the little amount of sewing joining this part. While these are minor criticisms, and maybe I don't understand the mechanics of making a backpack, I thought I'd post this for other users to see. The pack is wonderful looking and can't wait to try it out besides in the bathroom mirror! Great job Dan!

Mine came in at 32.8oz. Slightly over spec, but well within reason. I'm on the tall side for the fit, so I need to load it up and see how it fits. Looks great though!

Mine is 908g. I'm pleasantly surprised at the volume of the pack. The main compartment isn't much different than my Gregory Zulu 65. I am taking it out for an overnight this weekend, so I'll have to resist the temptation to bring all the stuff I didn't think I'd have room for!
Hi everyone,  We wanted to check in with all of you on the status of your 40L backpack. Production is completed, however, we’re facing some difficulties getting the packs from the vendor to our warehouse due to impacts stemming from COVID-19. We’d like to offer our sincere apologies for the delay in sharing this information. We’re working to get the backpacks to our warehouse as quickly as we can. We’ll have more information to share in the coming days, including a new expected ship date. From where we stand right now, it’s looking like that’ll be closer to the end of this month. But again, we’ll have more concrete details to share in the next few days.  Our apologies for the delay. If you’d rather not wait the extra time for your backpack, this run has been opened for cancelations. You may cancel at any time up until the backpack ships from our warehouse to you via your Transactions page: https://drop.com/transactions.  Thank you so much for your patience as we get this sorted out. We’ll be following up with you later this week with the most up-to-date information. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to our Community Support team at drop.com/support.

Warning a lot, if you are an EU's customer, packages are shipped via ups and they will claims 56 € for clearance. So you have already payed delivery and UPS claimed again more. According to the EU and french law, for a package value less than 150 €, you have only 20% to pay on, if you add the folder fees from ups (18€), il will be 142*0.2 +18 = 46 € and not 56 € Do you have explanation @Drop ? Usually you ship via Dhl which is more honnest...

@gui3gui Thanks for posting the image of your UPS invoice ! I double checked mine and in my case, Drop did not include the shipment cost in the "marchandise cost". In my invoice, "val march" (merchandise value, top right of the invoice) is 109,51 euros so that's exactly 120 USD. Yet, on the invoice, the "fret" (freight) line is blank (so 0). I called UPS twice and the 2 people I got were adamant: "the expediter did not detail the shipment cost, so UPS had to declare/give a price for the shipment to the customs office". So my case @gui3gui is a slightly different than yours, but the end result is the same: because Drop did not make the freight/shipment cost apparent, I got charge big extra amount.

jpittierHello as said above, I contacted a consumer protection association and I give them the mail that they advise me to send to Ups. To sum up: - as the amount is less than 150€, only the vat is due; - the absence of a rate for vat and the lack of precision as to the amount to which it applies is contrary to consumer law and price transparency; - the fact that the €38 is mentioned in a column entitled "exempt" should exonerate the customer from this payment - the association agrees with me that only the €18 is to be paid, and Ups is required to reimburse me the €38 unduly collected within 15 days, otherwise the consumer association reserves the right to sue ups. I also asked them to reimburse me the cost of registered mail, i.e. an additional €6.

All of the review photos show a top-loading strap pocket and I was very confused to find very small side-zipper pockets on the straps when I opened the pack. You can just barely squeeze a larger phone (s9+) in, but it pushes out the mesh an awful lot and deforms the strap a bit, and you can totally forget about plugging in headphones. The side pockets will fit a phone unless you have the pack on, in which case it's nearly as bad a fit as the shoulder pockets.

Did my initial trial with the pack last weekend. First of all, I am not an experienced or prolific backpacker. This was only my sixth trip total, all of them overnights. But I am 68 yrs old, which is why I was looking for a lighter pack to begin with. So far, I am very pleased. The pack is a little more than half the wt of my Gregory Zulu 65, which I will probably only use in the winter from now on. I went to Hickory Creek Wilderness in the Allegheny National Forest, a 12 mile loop over easy terrain. The pack rode very nicely - my torso length is 19", so the M/L was a good fit. No problems keeping everything high and tight. My hammock and summer quilt set fit with plenty of room to spare - it looks like I'll be able to use the pack with my heavy quilts, which I was not expecting to do. Clothes, cook kit, hygiene/first aid, and food went in the main body. I wasn't able to access my water bottle in the right pocket, but that is mainly due to an excess of body fat. Rain jacket went into the left pocket. My water treatment kit went nicely into the quick access compartment (which is a great stash!), although I will probably find a better use for it as I go forward. Tarp in snakeskin, groundcloth and stakes all fit nicely behind the front pocket. As for the front pocket, I puzzled over that for a while. On my return trip, I had an idea to put my keys and wallet in the front pocket, which solved the problem of worrying about them floating around the main compartment. They were a perfect fit, especially since my wallet is considerably slimmer after buying all this backpacking gear! I'll put the wallet in a ziploc next time, but I think it has found a home. I have absolutely no complaints - maybe I don't have enough experience to be super critical. I don't really care - I just really like the pack and no one's gonna tell me not to! Thanks, Dan, great product!
Dr_ArcticGlad you're liking it! Thanks for the review!

Sadly I purchased this at the pre order price of 150, and now am told its going to be delayed in shipping and it gone on "sale". Hey Drop what's the incentive to pre-order?

mgoerzenI just canceled and re-ordered, but I have to admit it's a bit gauche to not automatically apply the discount to those that pre-ordered. It's not exactly shady, but it's not very customer friendly.

mgoerzenThanks to this thread 👊🏻 I’ve just requested my $30 refund...! But I wouldn’t even have noticed the price reduction as I paid so long ago for it. The refund should’ve been automatically applied by Drop and provided with a note “sorry for the wait - but look, we’re dropping the price- so the first to benefit from it are our EXISTING CUSTOMERS!!”.... but alas - existing customers are expected to price shop the company against itself...??? 🙄

Is there any update on shipping dates? It's been a month and half and no other updates have been given other than mid-June. Update 6/9: I'm writing this update to voice my dissatisfaction with the lack of communication from the Drop team. I understand that this is a difficult time due to the global pandemic, but that is no excuse for not communicating with us, the people who bought into this drop. This drop finished almost 1 year ago and throughout the whole process of waiting little to no communication has been given. This is extremely disappointing and this is not isolated Until JalessaG provided an update about why the packs were not shipping on time, there was zero communication about the progress of production. They have given us a rough estimate date of when the packs could be shipping out, and that time frame is quickly closing in. There is still no communication on where in the production pipeline the bags are or if they have been shipped to the Drop warehouse. Dan Durston, the man who collaborated on the design and materials of this bag, has been more helpful than the Drop team, and he's had nothing to do with the production or shipping of these bags! This lack of communication by the Drop team is inexcusable and for this customer, I will no longer be buying products off of Drop because of it. 6/11: They announced the packs are in their warehouse and will be shipping out shortly. Their estimate for a mid-June ship date to us, the customers, was accurate. This still does not excuse the lack of communication during the initial production of the packs and the fix for the straps.

It's surprising that with over 1100 sales that there isn't a true large size pack yet to cater for those taller than ~6ft. Given that 20% of men are over this height, it seems there's a good opportunity being missed given the relatively small effort that would be necessary to modify the design. This would then align well with other pack manufacturers (e.g., GG) who offer sizes S, M & L to cater for a wide audience.

G_2060L version of this pack in L/XL size would be great too...
G_20At 6'2 I would already have one if there were a size that fit!
