If you liked the Massdrop Brass AAA Flashlight, then you’ll love our latest version, now stronger, lighter, and decked out in icy blue. About the size of a tube of chapstick—and not much heavier at 1.2 ounces—it pumps out up to 110 lumens and casts a beam as far as 154 feet Read More
Why would I search those websites for a Massdrop exclusive item which exists nowhere else? That sounds like an enormous waste of time. Why are you insulting people? Why not just walk away if you don't like it?
EmalAre you saying that everything made in China is shoddy? If so, that would mean a lot of very expensive American products are shoddy, too (every iteration of the Surface Pro, iPad, etc. -- the list is endless).
Hey everyone,
The Massdrop Brass AAA Flashlight was a big hit, and information we gathered from member comments and drop data showed us there was a demand for an upgraded version, so we went back to the same manufacturer and partnered with them to deliver on what the community wanted. To check out the Brass AAA drop discussion - which includes a lot of comments from members who've recently received theirs - click here: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/massdrop-brass-aaa-pocket-flashlight/talk
For this Blue Titanium version of the Massdrop AAA Flashlight, you will see the same top-tier components and the same choice of CREE (brighter) or Nichia (warmer) LED. You will also be getting the same precision machining, tailcap with metal switch, and gold-plated pocket clip that is removable or reversible, and lume ring.
The big difference here is that we've used titanium for the body, so it's lighter and stronger. However, as anyone who has spent a few hours on CandlePowerForums or BudgetLightForum will know, titanium is not a great "heat sink" the way brass is - it is more of an insulator than conductor. That means heat can build up inside the body, overheating the circuitry and shortening the lifespan or even causing failure - to solve that potential issue, we've added a brass ring that dissipates heat, while still maintaining a waterproof seal.
Finally, titanium looks great...but anodized blue titanium looks even better, especially with the golden-colored clip and brass heat sink. The result is a super-handy, high-quality tool with an elevated aesthetic that looks just as good in slacks as in a jeans pocket or tool box.
You will find more information on the Description if you scroll down to the Specs, but we'll be around before and after the launch to answer any questions. Thanks for your interest, we hope you like this one just as much as the original or even more!

JonasHeinemanIt would be nice to get one of these offered in copper and one in black. I think a black coated brass would look awesome. clips in multiple colors like green red blue and on and on would also be a good drop
JonasHeinemanI hope in the future you will have one of these made in copper another in black, red, blue, orange, yellow and other colors with an aluminum body. I think they would all sell and not have the downsides of titanium.

Hi Everyone,
We’re excited to announce the Massdrop Blue Titanium AAA Flashlight is entering the final stages of production! The flashlight has gone through some pretty extensive testing, including sitting in a pot of boiling water (while still shining!).

We are on track to meet our estimated ship date of November 20, and we’ll update everyone in 2 weeks with the status of the shipment.
Since I mentioned 21 weeks ago that I'd gotten no response from MD, I am truly not surprised to tell you that has not changed. Though the light is still working after taking it apart and doing absolutely nothing other than putting it back together.
MGDNI have one of the original lumintop time lights, and I had a similar issue, it appears that some oxidation on the contact surfaces can occur. I'm not sure how that happens seeing as mine is not anodized, and the threads are all raw, but cleaning the contact surfaces in the switch and on the light body, and applying a light bit of silicone grease has lept my light working for close to two years now. Don't forget there are threads at the head that should be cleaned and lubed too.
I find it amusing, and somewhat sad, the animosity that some folks bring to the discussion.
Just remember, the value proposition of something like this is really more as a fashion accessory. The colors are arguably pretty nice, as is the titanium. Thus the premium price.
If you want a basic functioning flashlight, yes, you can find plenty of more reasonably priced choices that fulfill the function of a flashlight just fine. Go for it and be happy.
To call someone derogatory terms because they don't subscribe you your own personal view of things is wrong. Sad. As long as what people do is no skin off of your nose, why be angry about it?
Just as folks are free to purchase and drive a good basic car like a Honda Civic, or something more extravagant like a Tesla or Porche, why get bent out of shape about what people choose to do if it doesn't negatively affect you personally?
I, myself, do like the colors on this light, but really don't like single battery flashlights that are smaller than AA. I find that AAA runs down too quickly for my use.
If an AA version were offered in these colors, I would jump on that.
K.T.NThat is all true. But since you mention runtime ... if people want to bitch abut something, they should be bitching about the poor runtime that is light is offering even for AAA this is sad on high; you know bitch about the real specs of the light. If they want something more political they could bitch about the BS in the promotional text since Massdrop has little into the design of this light the OEM has been making this model in different materials for a long time. Massdrop has designed or manufactured nothing here. From their earlier messages it is clear that they don't even know how these things are constructed. Maybe the OEM lets them think so, but the design and specs say otherwise. So they offered them a first run on a new anodizing, that was so they could make money.
Now the good stuff, is the light is pretty nice looking and the color could be unique if the production quality is good and looks like the photos. Still having to wait is a pain. Why couldn't they just make the light and then sell it. There is no risk here. If you want to buy it and put in a good driver that would be pretty nice. Massdrop shoudloffer L-M-H and M-L-H options, or something more substantial. If they went back to the drawing board they should have designed a decent driver... then they would have something different.
$2.23 on aliexpress . com folks. This 34.99 is like buying an Iphone X.
I got this for $2 bux. Yes it has the same CREE bulb. Yes it's waterproof, yes you could boil it in water like a retard.
It says it has 20 hours left as I write this, find the cancel button. Yes I'm flat out saying this whole drop is indeed a complete lie and 100% ripoff. No matter what they say. It's a lie. Go search Aliexpress and you'll find the truth.
This is my cree bulb flashlight. I bot it months ago. Not one issue for $2.23
Massdrop, really you need to stop this crap.
Justin_1Of course it’s $2.23. It’s NOT the same flashlight. Before you go insulting everyone, compare 🍏’s to 🍎‘s.
Titanium?
Electronic Button?
Stand on Tail?
Exact same Emitter?
Exact same Lumens?
Multiple Settings?
Visual Appeal?
Doubtful on all counts.
Imago_DeiI said as much on the brass model. Just a plain silver stainless clip is fine. I find gold plating in general to look cheap/tacky. Nobody is fooled. Consequentially, the gold plating does not last long. It is already mostly worn off of my brass light and is leaving what appears to be a stainless clip.
Anyone know the colour temp of the Cree emitter? I'm a Nichia man by nature, but I'm wondering if the cooler colours are a better match for this icy blue beauty...
Are you planning on getting additional stock of units with the CREE XP-G2 R5 LED? I'd love to have one of these, but I don't plan to purchase one with the same LED and output strength of the Brass Pocket Flashlight I also bought...
That was their reply:
“If the item gets enough request's we will do a drop for the item, but at this time it is unclear exactly when and if we will drop this item again.“
Seeing as you can‘t request the drop, because the other version is in stock, that‘s pretty useles.
@JonasHeinemanThe description says the Heatsink ring is Copper not Brass.
Please correct it if it is Brass. In my opinion Copper is much better material for heatsink than brass.
Thermal conductivity is the property to look at... specific heat tells you how much energy the material can absorb, but not how quickly heat can move through it.
Brass 115 W/m-K
Aluminum 247
Gold 315
Copper 398
Silver 428
So copper is better than brass in this sense, but copper is softer and more fragile so probably brass is the better overall choice. And this is based on an existing light so it must be a working design.
awkbrass is a poor heat conductor, Copper is the best, Aluminum is 1/3 worse, and brass is 50% worse than aluminum
in practice the brass ring on Lumintop TiTools gets too hot to touch within 5 minutes of running on high mode. I mainly use medium, or low, seldom High. The runtime on High is very short, and falls quickly, as it is not regulated.
