Product Description
Offset by a colored cap, the body of this entry-level fountain pen by Faber-Castell features a grip section with a series of finely embossed rings. Beneath the grip is a stainless steel nib, available in four different sizes Read More
I've had a loom for about six months. This pen would be a bargain at $60, let alone the mark of 40 that I paid, or the 33 massdrop wants.
This pen has one of the finest steel nibs ever made. It's absolutely flawless, perfectly tuned with the barest hint of very deliberate feedback. Wet, butt not gushing, and the M I have is usable even on cheap paper (reverse writes a nice, smooth, fairly wet needlepoint) though for everyday use on copy paper, go for an extra fine or fine.
The only issue I have with it is the cap snaps on almost too tightly. This thing is never coming off unintentionally. It has eased up a bit as it has been broken in, but it's still pretty much a two hand affair to uncap.
The body is nicely weighted, not a lightweight pen, but very comfortable for notes or long writing sessions. The grip is very secure and comfortable. The cap is light, but very well made and the clip is perfection.
Get a converter. If this is your first pen, get a bottle of "sailor jentle" ink in your choice of color (i like yama dori , turquoise, Oku yama, red, or souten, blue) on Amazon. The whole joy of fountain pens is the ink.
Anyone know of this comes with an actual usaable full cartirage, or is it empty which needs filling, i couldn't see anything upon reading. Also does the actual clip part come off at all, would love to hydrop dip it. I know it's probably not worth it but jusf purely fo experimental purposes. Some.sweet designs you can get, would look awesome against the piano white colour etc. Cheers
JianpangKuangmoI've also had a few problems with logistics on the last couple drops, with two in a row missing some piece or add-on, but I must say that the customer service has been pretty great in my instances.
antseverywhereMassdrop has also indicated elsewhere TWSBI isn't willing to let them sell their pens on here. It's a shame, because they make excellent pens.
Anything but a deal. Various versions of the fountain pen can be found at Amazon.de starting at EUR 14 through 27. For delivery outside EU an additional VAT deduction of 19% is applicable.
The pen is great, but it took 2.5 months for it to be delivered last time (drop was Feb 2016). Granted, there were numerous issues that came up, but, it's a pen... with minimal savings. Unless they changed vendors, I would stay away...
I have to agree with @imbored454, some drops are anomalies with extended shipping dates, some vendors misrepresent expected inventory, etc. However, having been a regular Massdrop participant for a while now, the majority of drops go smoothly, offering some great savings on niche products. A lot of the products available here are imported from Japan which gives me easier access than Ebay, or other online retailers. Essentially, I have Massdrop do all the work, all I have to do is decide if I click buy or not.
Specific to this FC LOOM pen, I took part in the previous drop as well. I selected the Piano Lime Green in Fine. It's a great pen, feels great in the hand. However, the F nib is very fine, so much so that it feels very dry to write with. I'm joining this drop again for a M nib in hopes it smooths out the experience.
The only store that I know of that carries fountain pens is Levenger in Washington DC. That's about 3 hours from me. I would dearly love to find a fountain pen brick and mortar.
