the description seems to be simultaneously talking about a passive model that works with integrated amps and tube amplifiers, and a 30w integrated active speaker. This is not rocket science or even a geeky little distinction. It's a fundamental categorization of speakers. Active or passive. Whomever manages the drops in this general category ought to have a grasp of the basics.

CalaverasgrandeAgreed. These are active, 15W + 15W speakers. Not useful for studio monitors though, but probably great computer speakers...

I love this site and I’ve found some great deals here, but these are a ripoff. These aren’t real studio monitors, they’re simply small bookshelf speakers. They’re described as powered, so no, you really shouldn’t connect them to any type of amplifier. They have a low range of 110hz, which is 30+hz above real studio monitors with similar sized drivers, and they don’t have any sort of balanced input, which means they can’t be fed from an audio interface and can’t be connected to a studio style subwoofer. With a minimum of 110hz, you’d absolutely need a sub that has a variable crossover that goes well above 120hz. Good luck finding that with unbalanced outs. These are just powered bookshelf speakers, and overpriced ones at that. I’m not making this comment to be difficult, but Drop does a lot of great work and turns out some incredible products, but these just don’t come anywhere near that standard. Again Drop is great, Fostex is a good brand, but these are just overpriced speakers and they don’t belong here.

nwmusicmanThese do pair well with the Fostex Submini2 if you want a more full sound. Friend has the PM03D and Submini2 setup and it actually sounds really good. He spent the same amount as I did for the Klipsch R-41PM speakers I have flanking my monitor. The little Fostex system sounds a lot more full and the imaging is much better than the Klipsch. Fostex setup is also much better than the Definitive Incline speakers I regrettably spent 3 Benjis on years ago. Better suited for computer speakers than studio monitors for sure. I imagine they would work pretty good in a small room too if you add the Submini.

nwmusicmanSeems like the description was copy/pasted from the Audioengine HDP6 speakers from a few days ago.

Are these passive or active speakers? The description is quite lacking in technical details.

HellShakeYanoI think these are active speakers with their own driver supplying 15 W to each speaker. Thus, Drop's comment about connecting to a receiver is misleading because no receiver is needed: "can connect the speakers to a receiver using the RCA inputs or use the ⅛-inch stereo mini input."

HellShakeYanoExpecting MD to provide accurate descriptions and product details is like asking a Vegan how to make a Pot Roast--they don't know, and they don't care, because they don't eat Pot Roast!!!

What are these, studio monitors for ants? Speakers have to be at least.... 3 times bigger than this!

I have these on my Amazon shopping list. Planning on using the SE Pass RCA out of my DROP + THX AAA 789 Amp to pass the signal from the JDS ol-DAC I'm running.

Really like the look of these. Would prefer XLR over RCA, but that's not a huge deal for the price.. What is the Xone:10 in the picture for? Just scale?

zypherionI guess they just appropriated hat photo from somewhere else, thinking it was perhaps the back panel of the Fostex speaker. Looks exactly like the photo for the combo pack sold by Digital DJ Gear (came up when I did it quick search). Or perhaps DDJG is the source for these speakers and provided that photo. Either way, just another example of drop.com not quite getting the details entirely correct and coming off as a bit misleading.

“Pair well with tube amplifiers”?? If they’re powered monitors, this can’t be an accurate description. I’ve been looking for some small, high sensitivity bookshelf speakers for a 2W SET amp and I’m guessing that this is not the answer unless there is a passive option.

With that kind of description... A picture of the back panel please? If it isn't asking for too much :)

Not sure, perhaps the previous iteration of the same product, and Drop is selling off the surplus at a discount.
