Perhaps best known for its 24-hour Airman tool watch, Glycine has been producing timepieces since 1914. This one features a dressy yet understated aesthetic with Arabic numerals on the dial, along with a date window at 3 o’clock Read More
Exactly. That is how it should be advertised. But of course that wouldn't be good business on Massdrop's part. The deals would be more apparent that they aren't all that great to begin with and people would start thinking the wait isn't work saving 25 bucks or whatever. Heck they prob have agreements with companies where they have to set the MSRP at a certain amount or they won't allow their products on here.
pwnermanI think your reading to much into this. More likely they just copy the MSRP from the mfg. They are not going to take the time to avg out a market price, and watches are generally at least only 80% MSRP on the market with many being below 50%. it really not uncommon for watches to have a high MSRP.
I see, because the one in the main image has a sand blasted case like the 3898.19AT.SB.MB but the image of the 3898.19AT.SB.MB appears to have a brushed/polished case. I guess if it's based on the correct model number then we should be getting the sandblasted version.
edit: Well that's interesting, it looks like the image for 3898.19AT.SB.MB has been corrected.
Any knowledgeable can comment on the movement? I guess is signature, but, china made? Japan? An ETA swiss iteration? I own an Avionica (ETA) and not sure if this is a proper upgrade, so to speak. Ty in advance
BoyuOne is sand blasted/matte finish the other regular stainless. I would like this fixed also as I want sandblasted but afraid of getting the other. I have seen both being sold under that number on the bay so seems to be a common problem.
MOABYeah, I had to use the pictures to confirm after I committed to the drop (there's the part where you can edit your choice and they have bigger pictures)
Gorgeous Watch. Full Matte Stainless Steel. Got it much later than expected but otherwise worth the wait.
My only complaint would be that the matte stainless finish was lightly scratched on the edge of one the strap links, when i took it out of the box. I understand it is a sensitive finish however.
shoot, i was gonna sell it, but I'm pretty impressed. for 290 bucks, this is a really nice watch. i got the white face, bead blasted finish metal bracelet and case. the packaging is really nice, and it has a great feel. I'm gonna be keeping it, with my other watch being an Omega speedmaster grey side of the Moon.
I buy a lot of watches...a lot of Glycine watches. The prices do vary a lot with them, as with most watches. There are lots of stores selling at or near MSRP, and they so sell. Jomashop often has the best prices, and does indeed have them on sale now for $299, but their normal price is $499, with MSRP listed at $1,450. Gnomon Watches has them for $799...sold out. Iguanasell has the combat 6, same watch in a smaller case, for $775. Jomashop also has a $10k MSRP Breitling on sale for $4,995...normal price $7,650. If you walk into a Breitling dealer you'll be directed to the $10k MSRP with little wiggle room. With all that being said, I have never seen these below $299, so if you like it, now's a good time to grab one. It doesn't matter what the MSRP is, you'd be hard pressed to find any watch with even a base ETA 2824 movement at this price. And these are better than that. Glycine makes great watches...and I'm getting another one at this price. MSRP be damned!!
Sellita are actually better quality and more expensive than ETA as Sellita makes them on new machines whereas ETA machines are much older. Sellita also uses one extra jewel (26 not 25 that ETA use). This will be a base level ETA movement.
What is in question here? The GL224 is simply a Glycine badged and finished 2824...and had always been, afaik. Many manufacturers that license ETA movements do this.
