Watches in the Edgard Collection from HERITOR add a little something extra to the classic stainless steel aesthetic. Crafted with surgical-grade 316L stainless steel in both the case and bracelet, each watch in this collection carves its own niche with bold color choices in the dial and bezel Read More
I guess if a watch maker has gone out of their way to use an unconventional material and has a sound reason to do so (other than selling watches) then as a metallurgist I am happy. Companies who don't and then make grandiose claims somewhat upset me.
I do care about the materials but only if that is the point, so I love Rado diastars for instance.
I thought more about the"surgical steel" thing, which just shows how much of a rabbit hole this discussion has become. A number of standards exist for 316L used as an implant material which are quite stringent. There aren't any for watch cases. Companies like this, if they assemble their watches (not a given) get the cases from another company, who gets their steel from yet another company. The"surgical steel" moniker could suggest that the requirements for surgical implant grade have been met by the steel supplier, and so is a quality mark if some sort. But many more trustworthy companies don't say surgical steel because we already trust them.
JakobWow, this little comment has garnered a lot of discussions.
I really didn't think it was a big deal, just that it's a cheap marketing term I associate with cheap mass produced products.
As far as I know "surgical steel" is pure marketing, it does suggest but guarantees absolutely nothing, there is no standard for the term that needs to be met, it is just marketing.
I think all the comments are a good thing.
As for what alternative materials, well, there are many higher end stainless that are measurably more corrosion resistant used in other industries. This is what happened in the knife industry, they explored steels used in other industries for a better product.
I am sure there are metals that are harder and more resistant to marks.
Yes, there is nothing wrong with 316l,for the money, I am sure it's likely the best but when makers charge thousands why not demand better?
It's this demand that drives improvements in movements.
Good when I opened the page and saw the watch I tough "WOW THEY SELL ZODIAC SUPER SEA WOLF"
But instead of Zodiac name and logo on the dial I saw Heritor...So Fxxxing dessapointed!!! Like really you have to Fxxx..copy even Zodiac? How low and disappointing this Heritor brand is. Design your own model not fake it out!!!
Lol. Read the thread and see who uptight boys. Anyway, just chill guys, calm down, relax. Correct, I don't spend my life on this thread, unlike some in this conversation who spend every waking moment until the sun rays die down😉. I can hear the 6 gun explicatives being loaded now by the Drop Lifers, and aimed at the upstart who dare have a different opinion 😮 and point out blatant copiers. Damn, I'm betting this will really rile up the cell mates. And get your dictionary out too cause your gonna need it if you want to string a good argument together, as I know you can spell all the F words well but that's probably about it. Come on boys, take the bait, I know the blood pressure is maxed out about now. 😝
"upstart(s) who dare have a different opinion"?
I don't think anyone was suggesting you can't express your opinion, I think they were pointing out that same ill-considered opinion is OFTEN expressed--meaning it wasn't wholly original or unique. Nor was it consistent with comments you've made previously.
For example, you seemed quite enameled with the Drop Soda, the Seiko Fifty-Fathoms, and the Bulova, Lunar Pilot--all of which share obvious design similarities to earlier, more established watches.
On the other hand, there was a hint of suspicion expressed about your maturity--your reply to @Truelove1 pretty much nailed down the answer to that question.
Me: That is such an obvious blatant Zodiac rip off! They're not even pretending to hide it. Ridiculous!
Also Me: Now should I get the baby blue/orange or the dark blue version? 😂
