DynamiklolLast time there was a huge inventory shortage that Bottlecutting Inc. has assured will not be the case for this listing.
There are only two color options available for this drop (Black and Yellow) and we have absolute confirmation on the quantities allocated to the Massdrop community.
What is the blue hell is the point of this? $50 to cut apart beer bottles?! Am I missing something? Or is this what all the kewl kids are doing these days and I am just not "with it"?
Yakov250Just watched the product video that I didn't immediately notice. This is definition of a First World Problem. Solution to a problem that never existed. This has to be some Bay Area Mission hipster creation.
Plus it only seems to work on one type of bottle shape...what if I want to cut open a JD bottle?
Hey everyone,
The shipment of our order is still in transit at the moment, and we are expecting it to arrive our warehouse by Monday. Depending on what time it arrives, we are aiming to have everything shipped right back out within 24 hours of its arrival.
Cheers!
nelsonI like this update, however I got an email stating there was some sort of miscalculation with production and that the drop would be postponed for 10 weeks and the our order was not submitted as purchased. Additionally we could opt for the pink kinkajou however we would have to wait even longer for this item to ship.
Can I get some clarification? Might extremely confused.
Simply: Wtf is going on? You have our money for close to a month already
JermzYeah this is amateur hour at mass drop all over again. Simply god awful communication and you guys can't even keep track of what people are ordering.
Your offer for 20% coupon is disgraceful and a spit in our faces.
I want my money back and I am done using massdrop.
I was one of the original Kickstarter backers of this guy. My first couple of bottles worked out ok, then I had about 10 bottles shatter in my hand, in a row. Haven't touched it since.
ApathyMonkI've used a variety of things to cut and drill glass over the years, it's a fickle thing some breaks are inevitable. Making sure your line is spot on and being patient with the hot/cold water helps a lot. Also thicker glass like wine bottles take longer but tend to work better than beer bottles in my experience (though I've cut quite a few beer bottles successfully there is a higher failure rate). Very much a practice makes perf... err... better thing 😉
Cut proof gloves (or just decent leather work gloves) will prevent most injuries.
So, now that this is available again- can one of the previous MDers let us know how well it works?
The sanding part sounds tedious, but I guess if it makes a perfect cut there wouldn't be too much sanding involved?
dqnielThe product works well.
The tool is actually much larger than I expected, and looks and feel extremely durable.
Although, I was expecting this to be more like a pipe cutter. However, this bottle cutter is designed to only score the bottles.
Instructions say you should only go around once. The silicone rings go above and below the score line, and you place the bottle in ice water for a bit, then pour hot water in between the rings (over the scored glass) and the top pops right off.
Very clean lines after you find the right technique. I've been making flower containers, and can't really speak to drinking out of the final product. The edges look rough though, you'd need to round them with the sand paper provided.
dqnielI had a slightly different experience with this than hunderpants. I went through half a dozen bottles but was not able to get a cut to line up. I am not sure why I can't get it lined up properly but other than that, this thing is pretty neat. The other thing I played with is some sort of finish for the bottle to keep the label from peeling off. I tried sanding sealer...no good. You need something thick that will coat/envelop the outside of the bottle if you choose a bottle with s paper label.
I will revisit this guy again later in the week...might make a good vase for mothers day if I get a good cut (or spend some time sanding!)
