I'll only purchase the rare item sold at a significant discount. That was why I came in the first place.
The points system is effectively a 10% discount which I do not consider a great deal at all.
I bought the Lime Ears Aether essential, that was an example of why I shop here. Crazy good imaging.
It's amazing how many people come on here complaining about price without exercising any rational thought.
The price is MSRP.
This is the manufacturer's fixed price that all of their dealer network must advertise & adhere to in print.
If Drop offers a direct discount, it'll undercut the dealer network & cause an uproar. (Anyone remember the Quad ERA-1 controversy?)
The only way an authorized dealer can advertise a lower price is if it's authorized by the manufacturer so that their entire network has the same price.
What does all of this mean? It means that Drop either bought inventory from an AD or arranged to act as a conduit to push a product that's not moving through the normal means. They have to offer the product at MSRP & only have the means to offer what effectively is a 10% discount through rewards points.
Of course you could always call or walk into an AD & negotiate a better deal. It is what it is.......
MaverickAHIt’s not necessarily a complaint, more so a critique. Drop has lost what made them a standout. A few years ago, you could go 4 or 5 days without a new listing. Back then they were more about seeking out real deals, quality, over quantity. Now everyday, there are new listings.
I’d like to see Drop do better. Hopefully all of the cumulative criticisms will wake the bean counters up.
so we'd be paying full price for something with no warranty (unless you pay the extra cash!), worse CS, and even worse wait times? yeah no thanks. plus these can be had second hand for less than half the price!
CasioPSXYour comment on the low resale value got me to look over on Head-Fi, For Sale sub-forum. It's a bit disconcerting that a $1K IEM suffers quite a bit from paint/finish chipping, at the ridge.
I know drop will say something like “if you have questions regarding the product or features great but if you ask why it’s full price and delayed shipping compared to absolutely any other vendor online, save it for your phone call to Comcast.” This is absurd, Drop, and you know it.
Agreed. A straightforward discount is the essence of Drop's business model. If they lose it, they would be reduced to just another mediocre online web store.
