Product Description
Think of the Seiko 5 SNZG as the big brother of the company’s popular SNK. While both share the same military aesthetic, and both make excellent introductions to automatic watches, the SNZG is—at 42 millimeters in diameter—slightly larger than its counterpart Read More
Serious question though, why do you continue to list MSRP for Seiko watches when literally no one ever sells them at MSRP? They seem to be just like Invicta where they set their MSRP so high so it looks like a deal since it's always at a steep "discount". I've noticed this trend of MSRP's being inflated by manufacturers to a ridiculous degree. Maybe Massdrop can switch over to a comparative system so deals' values are a little more transparent and less manipulative.
Snappy reply Russel, yes I am a very smart old man . I wasn't always though, I was once very brash and a whole lot younger and I didn't realize that with age comes experience and hopefully common sense. End of conversation!
What the hell are you talking about? You do not deliver in many countries, when i asked about shipping in Moldova , u said to use freight forwarders. I have bought 3 watches from your websites, and every time i have to sped extra for forwarding.
OK, I won't be joining this drop because I already own the SNZG13J1 and I have been wearing it for the past 2 months. I just want to share my experience with it.
I'll start by saying that I can't even describe how much I like this watch:
-It is the right size
-It is so easy to read
-It is solidly built
-And it is so accurate
I honestly don't know how Seiko does it.
After the first day of wearing it, the watch was 23 seconds behind. My calculations showed that, if it continued at that rate, it would have been 34 seconds behind after the first 24 hours. At that point I was thinking of calling the retailer to ask for a replacement. But I gave it another day, thinking that the movement might catch up.
And catch up it did. It has kept the time really well: the past 25 days it has been behind a mere 3 seconds a day on average. Some days it runs fast and some days it runs slow. It depends on how much energy is transferred into the movement (how active your wrist is, wink wink).
So my suggestion to anyone buying this Seiko is to keep wearing it if you want to keep it going and keep it accurate. Otherwise, it can keep going for more than a day off the wrist but the accuracy will suffer.
Oh, also, get a spring bar tool like the Bergeon 6767 (that's the one I have) and get all kinds of straps. It looks good with anything: nylon straps, leather straps, natos, you name it. I bought the striped NATO pictured below to wear on a daily basis and I occasionally put the bracelet back on when I want to dress the watch up.
Regarding the J vs K models, there should be no difference besides a "Made in Japan" marking both on the front and on the back.
I'll happily answer any questions you might have. Enjoy your watches, fellas!
The Horween American Leather light brown strap looks great!
I have to buy a strap made with circa WWII leather for a Vintage HPP Hercules I bought. So I think I'll have to wait before buying more straps. Also I am trying to buy another vintage made the year I was born. lol
By the way thanks also for the Bergeon, I should have bought this one. Better quality than the cheaper I have.
LucQcOoh, good luck with the vintage strap hunting! I'm sure that will look great.
Yeah, the Bergeon tool is solid. It just feels right. I haven't used another tool so far and I don't think that I will.
This is an awesome watch at an awesome price! I should get another one and make another one of these. Crystal and dial replacement and a quick polish of the case gets you this look. Take the movement from an Invicta and you have a watch that hacks, manual winds, and looks like a million bucks.
RayFYes, even though I really like the "Soda" Glycine Sub combat, not just the price , but I am not too sure about the color scheme. Just found a U.S. Canada shipping only site, prices were cheaper than JS, really wanted a cute little Vostok Europe, but won't ship to Oz!! "Touch of Modern', yes i know it doesn't really describe you or I but you might just find a deal!! Good luck.
cagenutsThe military as well as many essential services require split second accuracy 24 hours a day. Everyone has to be on the same page (and the same time) If some gomer confuses 7 am with 7 pm when a life or death supporting or operational action is required than it becomes a manure storm. 1900 hrs says it nicely.
I've owned this watch for about 2 years and it's been really reliable. It's my go-to watch for whenever I'm out in the field, which is quite often. Here I am at the Franklin Canyon Lake in Los Angeles, aka Andy Griffith Lake. I would recommend this watch and also to get a sapphire crystal upgrade from crystaltimes with purple AR.
Don't know why some people are allowed to continue to post on here. Since all they do is troll. It is possible to hide a members posts though, so you never have to endure them again.
CalaverasgrandeStarting November 1st, you'll only see my snarky and unhelpful comments if you upgrade your membership to the new "Drop Plus!"
It's does cost an extra $20/month, but you get the old web layout and all prices are guaranteed to be 50% less than anywhere else, and everything is shipped in two days, and there's no time limit on refunds ;- )
How you like me now?!
I have the SNZG15J1, I upgraded the band for a NATO style strap and also replaced the hardlex crystal with a Sapphire Double Dome crystal, which is not a hard modification with the right tools.

At this price this is a very affordable and easily modifiable automatic watch, the 7S36 movement in these watches is a workhouse and very reliable, yes sometimes subject to rotor noise, but barely noticeable.
Great watch. I have owned the SNZG11 for over 2 years and it is still my goto daily driver. It's the perfect size for my wrists and with a cheap leather strap from amazon is very comfortable.
Non-J, steel bracelet version is $115 on Amazon as of today (5/29/19) so lets not hear any more of that "it's cheaper elsewhere" nonsense! Damn shame I'm not into field watches--if I were, I'd buy one or two of these without a second thought.
For those with a preference for snappy-looking NATOs and Zulu straps, this watch would be the adult equivalent of a Barbie Doll just waiting for new outfits!
