Does anyone have this nd the ad18 to compare?

No, there doesn't seem to be a setting for screen dimming, only text color. The Manuel does specify coax/optc1 as subwoofer out. But dealing with these Chinese company's that doesn't necessarily mean anything.
I just joined the drop for the MX3. I don't really need it, but would be fun to compare as the are so similar in functionality.

RojasTKDIf you don't have dimming, I believe that makes is the old version without subout.

The SUB stays on when I am in headphone mode. Very inconvenient for nighttime listening. Can anyone else confirm if theirs does this? Is there a way to disable the sub in headphone mode or do I have to reach over and unplug the sub every time?

Bobby9265That does sound like a silly thing to do. Sometimes when we go with Chi-Fi (Chinese HiFi) we have to deal with silly things, I guess.
I do this for a different reason, but it might help here too. I have my Desktop monitors (JBL LSR 30X), my DAC/AMP (NFB-11) and sub-woofer all on separate pulgs with wireless remotes. So if I don't want my sub playing at night I jut hot a button and it powered off.
Also as the rest of the gear has the power button at the rear, making it a pain to turn on and off, I just leave them on and use to remote to tun them on/off. When I powering off my NFB-11 my PC defaults back to it on board audio, which I use for general computing. Turning on my NFB-11 I I get higher quality audio. Then I can turn on the sub If i really want to feel the thump. Luckily I got them remotes all on three different channels (A, B, C).
Perhaps this is a viable solution for you.
This is what I got : https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OBYGW4Y/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
it has three outlet per unite, there are models with just one plug if that all you need.

RojasTKDit's not an issue for me as i use the mx3 primarily has a headphone amp but also drive some bookshelf speakers with it. i refuse to have a subwoofer near all my hard drives.
I contacted Topping with a few questions, and they responded promptly. They confirmed that the MX3 is not firmware upgradeable, does not have AptX, and its speaker terminals and subwoofer-out are full-range at all times (no sub crossover).

Desktop amps generally don't have a line-out, just FYI in case that is what you are looking for.

My amp was outputting to the Sub-Out even when in headphones mode and when it entered the automatic low per mode would emit a really loud popping sound out every channel (speakers, sub AND headphones if plugged in). It was loud enough I worried it would blow my speakers and I returned it as defective to Massdrop. Just wanted to share my experience with this brand/amp...

Just wanted to add my $0.02 since I got one last time it dropped. Overall very pleased with the drop. Bought it mainly as a headphone amp/DAC and as far as that functionality goes it's very good. I'd say on par with the Teac AI-101DA if not slightly more powerful.
Features I like: auto on/off (reallly like this), volume knob (clicky and oddly satisfying), auto dimming display, tons of inputs, remote, headphone amp is a huge upgrade over whatever's in your PC/phone and drives my AKG K7XX easily
Features that could be improved: volume steps (very sensitive to how fast you turn the knob, I alternate between liking this and hating it, could probably have been better calibrated), sub output (I haven't used it, but considering I've seen auto crossovers implemented very well on other desktop speakers (definitive tech inclines) it's a feature I'd happily pay a bit extra for), display color (I love orange, but everything else is blue), 3.5mm headphone out and not 1/4inch
Features I can't comment on (yet): speaker amp, bluetooth (I hate bluetooth with an irrational fury)
Is this unit worth $100? IMO absolutely, I'd say it's probably the best $100 amp/dac/receiver you can buy, I'd easily pick this over the SMSL Q5 (auto on/off, headphone amp, looks nicer imo). The closest comparable unit I have is the Teac AI-101DA and I'd say this unit is on par as a headphone amp/dac and costs 1/2 as much, has the same features and has higher rated power for speakers (haven't tested that yet). Granted, the Teac looks nicer, has a better brand reputation, a super smooth volume knob and has it's power supply in the chassis.

Do anyone have the MX3 and the schiit stack or o2/odac combo? Just wondering how does the headphone portion of it fair against those.

As far as I know Audiosciencereview hadn't measured the MX3. The typing D30, D50, DX7 & DX7s are well regarded though and use a whole different class of DAC chip.
The MX3 is really a speaker amp though and headphone is an afterthought.
AudioSciencereview is measurement obsessed in not quite convinced that measuring something and hearing something are 100% the same.
I will admit I've never been sold on Schiit for some reason this do not own one of their products. I do however own some Audio-GD that I like and enjoy that is afternoon considered poor measuring by the audioscience people.
I do plan at some point to compare my audio-GD great to some audio science review approved gear and decide for my self.

RojasTKDI kust assumed the Dac was similar to the D10 an D50 they measured. But i agree that it doesnt actually give any clue regarding the actual sound itself...

How does this compare to the O2+SDAC?

The DAC is a PCM5102A, but I have no idea how that compares to the AKM AK4452 of the SDAC. The full details was posted in link here somewhere.

Used with KEF R500 inefficient floorstanders in a large living room just to test it out. Worked perfectly even good as a permanent amp there. AptX would be a nice upgrade in newer model. Been an audiophile for 30 years and technology really has improved several times.

Does anyone know anything about this? I've been looking for a dac for a few months, but I haven't found one that I really like until this one.

I don't think this one is AptX (or BT 4.0?) I can't find definite answers to this. However, this is not too important to me... I won't use BT for this often, would just have liked the feature.

I'm currently using a Yamaha RX-V379 as a headphone amp and as my amplifier for two Klipsch B-3 passive speakers. I kinda want to "downgrade" to a more compact unit. Can the MX3 "beat" the Yamaha?

Hmm. ..with 45mw/channel at 300 ohms your HD600/650 are really underpowered and must sound odd.. Very weak as an headphone amplifier...even at 100$ IMHO !

Wile-E-CoyoteI'm running T60rp off the MX3 and they are powered fine. (around 65% max volume) This has a surprisingly great headphone out for the price especially with all the other features.

How do you hook up active speakers to this thing?

Why wouldn't you? I have JBL monitors (MD flavored series 3XX) and run them through a dac/amp unit. Yes the speakers are powered but that doesn't prevent them from benefiting from the DAC circuit. My unit has separate preamp outs where this one doesn't seem to, but I'm guessing the manual covers that connection. The other nice features offered are obviously the bluetooth connection and the remote control--I wish I had both on my Jotunheim!

it is mono, or summed. per Topping support. "Your MX3 is normal. We do this is because some users will use MX3 as a pre-amplifier, they will connect the power amplifier from the headphone jack, and they need subwoofer output at the same time. So if you need to use headphone only, please pull out the subwoofer output."
