After a long time (more than one year) I purchased this headphone on Drop and a long period of listening to Gold Planar GL 1200 (and GL 850), it comes the right time to write few lines. The GL 1200 headphone needs to be connected to a powerful amplifier via its own energizer, comprised in the box which arrives with the order on Drop. So I used my system dedicated to loudspekers (Magneplanar 3.7 mkII): Mac Mini + Audirvāna >Berkeley USB Converter>Berkeley Reference DAC 3>Preamplifier AudioResearch Reference One mk II (inside re-cabled VanDenHul silver cables)>Power amplifier Mark Levinson ML 23.5 200 w/8 ohm per channel class B & Nelson Pass 70 w/8 ohm per channel class A. Neverthless I used also a Schiit Jot R (800 USD), using a special adapter (the Jot R is projected for RAAL sr1a only and this headphone has pin inverted! Be careful: do not use Jot R connecting directly the GL 1200! Never! You need the special adapter with is described specifically in some specific Threads on different Audio Forum). My final judge on GL 1200 is given after several comparative matches with the RAAL sr1A, on the same system described above, as well comparations with Stax 009 & 007 & Audeze CRBN, as electrostatic Headphones, with HiFiMan 1000V2 as planar, and Sony Z1r as dynamic headphones (obviously using different audio systems in these latter comparations...). The GL 1200 has always distincted itself for a wide space in front of me, a lot of “air” between different instruments of the large orchestra n Classical Music. You know, since I am an every year subcriber to two different theatres of my town (Florence), I am used to listen at least once a week my city’s two orchestras (Maggio Musicale and ORT), as well worldwide famous other orchestras as Berliner Philharmoniker, Wiener Philharmoniker, Orchestre de Paris, Orchestre National de France, London Symphony, Mravinskj Orchestra and so on that so often come to Florence. With Classical music the GL 1200 is one of the most satisfying headphones I have listened to. The ribbon technology guarantees an accurate midrange as well speedy and refined highrange frequencies. But the power of bass, also deep bass, is something that came unexpected! This is why the GL 1200 reveals itself as a wondelful “servant” for Pop, Rock and Electronic Music. I cannot take too many lines here to describe all the albums I have listened too (from Pink Flyod in HiRes to Beatles new remastered albums, from White Snake to Nirvana, from Berliner Philharmoniker to Low Angeles Philharmonic, from Miles Davis to Bollani & Rava) but who were interested in, could read my entire review of this headphone on Melius Club italian HiEnd Audio Forum. The main fingerprint of this ribbon headphone is the “speed”, the accuracy it reproduces the transient of every instrument in every kind of Music. And...yes, also the large space, the immense amount of air around your ears, the large, very large, stage. Well only the RAAL can do better in this specific field. In my opinion this GL 1200 is a real bargain among HiEnd headphones, considering these wonderful audio performances can be obtained using also the Schiit Jot R (800 USD more or less), not only on a system for loudspeakers. Not only: if you damage a ribbon (and I cannot be succesful in damaging it even using the ML 400 w on 4ohm at high volume!), it’s extremely easy to change by yourself, as easy as change a battery inside yours children toys! And very (relatively) unexpensive, since a couple of new ribbon sells at around 150 USD. By the way, you can find silver ribbon (the ones sent inside the box by Drop) or golden ribbon, available on different sites on internet: in my opinion the sonic differences between them are very very subtle... Since I am italian and you know, Italians are famous for design, I can’t stop to say: it was impossible to design a headphone more ugly than this one! This is the only point with a negative judjement by myself (even if... you have to listen to it, not to bring to a modern Art exposition to Uffizi, Louvre or Metropolitan Museums!😆). So ugly but so..... comfotable! It is a glove for your ears, a soft glove but stable enough to keep its position when you turn around your head or... you shake it! In summary: GL 1200 is a headphone at the highest level of audio quality, indipendently from the cost, and it guarantees a great listening satisfaction with all genres of music. A real bargain.

The left driver kept cutting in and out. The DROP representative let me know that there is no warranty from the manufacturer, but offered a refund, because I was within the timeframe, which was 30 days from delivery. I returned the item and got my money back.
