Maybe it's just me but I don't trust cables that are going down in price from 100 bucks to 60... I mean, after material cost and labor, and massdrop's commission, this cannot cost more than $7-$8 to make.. So it's not surprising that reviewers does not find this to sound better than stock. I even believe that in some cases a good stock cable would even be a better sounding cable. I personally don't care about how the cable looks and prefer to invest once in a truly decent quality cable. Not saying to invest 400 bucks on a cable, but 100 bucks on a cable that is actually uses high quality wires, connectors, sleeves, and uses high-conductivity solder wire is a must for me, otherwise I would just stick with the stock without waste a single penny. For me when I see a custom cable maker that drops the prices by 50% it's game over. You're better off with those that keep their prices solid, with maybe 5-10% discounts on holidays, that will guarantee you're getting a good sounding cable and not junk in a pretty dress. Also, let's say you've bought this cable for the full price right, and now you're selling the headphones and want to return some of your investment and sell the cable, you cant.. because the cable is now worthless unless you want to sell it for scraps. Another reason to stay away. That's why I love companies like schiit audio that protects your investment by keeping solid prices. That's my 2 cents on this subject. BTW I bet that the confusion surrounding cables sounding better or not is related to the fact that most cables that people are buying are garbage. There's no free meals.

I just bought a Periapt cable with XLR 4pin, 7ft for my HIFIMAN 4XX at a cost of $78 directly from Periapt in orange. I saw someone on Facebooks “The Headphone Experince” group and fell in love with the orange. Here’s a photo from their post below. I would love to order one, but only if Massdrop multiple colors to choose from. I still recommend this drop.

You should hear the 6XX out of a Mjolnir...Good God!Loved the 650/Jotunheim combo but the Mjolnir is a different beast! I'll be receiving an XLR cable for my Edition X's very soon, will let you know how it goes as they are considered very efficient but I've also heard from some users that they scale up with more juice!

Going to be honest here, I bought some Periapt Pros for my E-MU Teaks and I hate them. Insane cable microphonics -- even just moving my head left-right to look a different monitor evokes a loud scraping noise. They look amazing and are solidly built, but are totally unusable unless you are willing to sit perfectly still when using them.

Most of what is discussed is cable length and color options. Quality seems to be good, however no one has attested to any sonic improvements. I’d be particularly interested in hearing from those with carnal knowledge of these cables with HE4xx cans. Cheers!

Listen, you don't know me and my experience with audio, so please don't start with the snake oil bull.. There's certainly alot of it in the industry, like $600 USB cables, or $4000 interconnects, or 50K dacs. Now, even as an electrical engineer that clearly know how to distinguish between bullshit and not, I know the basic facts are : once a cable is measured differently, because it has a big enough difference in characteristics, it will sound different, PERIOD. Saying all cables sounds exactly the same is pure ignorance. Even things like the quality of the conductivity on the connectors the cable has can influence the sound. That being said, When you use a good quality connector, even if it's not that expensive like Neutrik, the difference between it and some super expensive connector like the Furutech, is going to be much harder to distinguish from one another. But when you compare generic brass garbage with good quality connctor, the difference will certainly be noticeable. So my point is- don't drag yourself into exaggerated place, but still look for the something of high quality for a reasonable cost. About the wire itself, yes, id you'll look good enough and investigate what you're actually getting, you will be able to find excellent cables for great prices. Im NOT going to give examples because I Don't want anyone to think I'm not being objective here. Yes it will never going to cost you 60 bucks, because as I said on my other message, after all expenses are being calculated, you can't have a truly high end cable for the cost of 7 dollars, especially when this claims to come from Kansas. But you can buy a really good cable for about $130, that besides the price has an actual specs you can look at, and better yet it is a certified UPOCC wire. Again, most $60 cables, would sound at best scenario as good as a sennheiser stock cable, and even worst. As I said because most of you don't have the ability to test the actual wire material and characteristics, the best thing you can do is get the wire specs, and make sure it's also comfortable and has the lowest microphonics possible, because if you don't, you may as well buy the most beautiful pure OCC silver cable in the world for 70 bucks, and even let your mind telling you it's the best thing ever, but the real fact is that it's pure garbage, like most others. I'm saying it again - There's no free meals, high end cables are expensive to produce, and most of the confusion over cables comes from the fact that most people are buying cheap cables that claims they are something they aren't, and are confusing pretty cables for good sounding cables. A fun fact- There's only 3 factories in the whole wide world that are producing real and certified OCC wire, and those are super expensive. Now go to AE and eBay and see how many "OCC" cables you can find for penny's.. So what happens? A clueless person that bough this cable and found its sounds not better than stock, is now convinced that it's all bullshit, but the fact is he's got a fake cable.

Hi, they did sound better with these, that with the stock cable from my HD6XX, I'm sure you'll enjoy this cable. I enjoy them a lot.

I've had Periapt cables before. Certainly of high quality but the microphonics bothered me. I'd always get this rubbing sound through the cable when it would rub against my shirt or the cables above the Y-split would rub against each other. Also that piece at the Y-split has a flat top which would often catch underneath the desk and pull on the headphones. Addressing those issues could make a big improvement.

Just a head's up, the newest revision of the 4xx uses dual 3.5mm connections. Make sure you check which one you need before you buy. This drop saves you about 8 dollars from the regular price plus 6 dollars in shipping if you're in the US. I bought from Periapt directly and plan to again. I would be all over this if the cable was longer than 5ft.

I missed out on the last appearance of Periapt's cables on (Mass)Drop and I won't be picking up any cables in this drop...because I ended up buying direct and these things rock: I ended up buying a 10ft cable in grey with a 6.35mm termination for my lightly-modded HD6xx. The cables feel sturdy and built for a lifetime of use - and despite paying a significant amount for shipping to NZ, I think they're worth every penny.

SharkhunterusaMine are Dekoni fenstrated leather pads - also bought from Drop, although it looks like Drop are now doing their own pads now: https://drop.com/buy/drop-earpads-for-hd6xx-and-hd58x I haven't noticed any appreciable difference in the audio, but I find these pads much more comfortable than the stock ones.

I don't get this drop. A Periapt Pro Type 2 will cost me exactly the same (54$) in their website and I get to choose the color. What benefit is this drop offering?
RokuganThey also offer the Fostex style two pin if you email them, an option oddly missing for a site that sells three detachable cable fostex cans that could take advantage of such option. Edit: No longer have to email them it's now posted on their website amongst the other headphone cable options, seriously why is there no Fostex option

Interesting that these are now being offered on MD. I was going to jump on the latest FanSound cable offering for my HD6XX but decided to buy a set of Periapt XLR direct off their website as the cost was comparable but I could get them within 2 weeks. In fact, they are scheduled for delivery tomorrow, so I'm stoked about that. I'll update my post with any issues on weight, microphonics, etc. once I get them plugged in. Regardless, it's great to see a small US company being supported here. Cheers MD. EDIT: My Periapt Pro's came in early. Sweet. There are some microphonics present if rubbing occurs on the smaller cables after the split. I only notice this if the music is subdued or between tracks. Because I'm a metalhead, I rarely hear the disturbance. I can also see where the weight of the cable might aggravate some; however, at 5 feet in length, there is not enough cable off the edge of my desk to allow gravity to intervene. A great, affordable cable.
