iFi Audio ZEN CAN MZ99 and Signature V1 DAC + Cable Bundle
I have been using this DAC to drive my DT 1990 pro for a year. The sound quality is a huge buff from using my PC's audio jack. Easy to tune and the LCD screen looks cool and clean on my desktop.
Polite When Compared to my Schitt Jotenheim, But More Accurate
Using either the XLR or 4.4mm balanced, this combo may not be the final word in grunt, power and control, but the overall presentation has no real weaknesses I can discern. use them primarily with Focal Elegias and XLR cables, streaming Tidal MQA. Never harsh, solid extension, unremarkable mid-range, and airy and clean on top. Comfortable listening for a few hours, which is more than I can say for other combos (Fostex and Schitt) I used to call paradise!
This thing has plenty of power for every headphone I have, including a planar magnetic. It made everything I plugged into it sound better and more full. It has every input a person could really want and is incredibly flexible. Bluetooth connectivity has bee rock solid, and I've had no issues with USB either. If you need the balanced outputs, a lot of power, a variety of inputs, and have limited space, this will work perfectly, assuming it's within your budget.
This Dac/amp is great. It's just super convenient to have Bluetooth and all the balanced connections. Only one plug needed and you have a balanced, linear, distortion-free system. The price is a little steep if you don't mind more cables lying around as you could probably find a stack that is cheaper and essentially does the same thing. But if you're looking for an all-in-one package and don't mind shelling out the extra cash, then this is highly recommended. Just a tip for most people: make sure you flip the switch on the bottom to 120v or it won't turn on.
Very neutral sound and enough power to drive pretty much anything. It's sturdy, and has a relatively small footprint.
As others have stated, make sure to check the voltage on the bottom of the unit.
Awesome sound quality in a nice sized combo package. While I enjoy it more with my balanced cables (could honestly just be the headphones I have them one) it sound great unbalanced as well. As others have stated great amount of inputs. It feels really nice and quality not cheap and plastic like. Just everyone make sure you are set at the right voltage at the bottom of it. I really can't think of any cons at this time maybe other than its kinda of bland look. Hope everyone enjoys this as much as I did.
WARNING!!!: Please make sure to adjust the current from 240V to 120V on the bottom of the unit!!!
I thought I got a bad unit, but after I switched the voltage the unit started to work correctly. This is the best bang for your buck. No issues with the unit.
I love the fact that it has so many inputs. As Z Reviews on YouTube put it, the most inputs ever on any DAC/AMP. That alone is why I bought it!
The DAC/AMP is very neutral, and can power pretty much anything you throw at it! I love the fact that it comes with Balanced input and balanced XLR inputs. Running some Monolith MM-3 speakers from the back of the Topping DX7 Pro and Headphones in front. Great to have one output on Windows and everything running over optical/toslink.
Wish it had a button on the front to switch from Headphones Out to Back Outputs and/or input selectors. That would make it worth even more. This way you would not need the remote or fumble through the wheel.
